Well it's one sum so I didn't think plural was appropriate.

    Maths.

It's more arithmetic really.....but doing the arithmetic sounds like some kinda dance routine.

I think that it is crazy having a world handicap system as it is a well known fact that ‘one size does not fit all’.
There is another problem with the golf handicap system which was introduced in 1983 and does not appear to be fixed.
Golf clubs are full of very low handicap golfers who are mostly ‘one course wonders’.
Prior to 1983 a golfer with a handicap of 4 or less had to submit 40% of their scores playing in competitions on other golf courses but under the rules of the 1983 golf handicap system which I understand was introduced from Australia this obligation stopped.
There are hundreds of golfers throughout Scotland with a handicap of scratch (0) +1,+2,+3,+4 and even +5 because they only play competitions on their own member golf course.
When we moved to Islay in 2005 and became a full member of Islay Golf Club my handicap was 6. However by the time I chucked the golf in February 2011 my handicap had increased to 10.6 (11) as Machrie Golf Course was a far more difficult golf course to play than Downfield Golf Course.
Machrie Golf Course like other typical links golf courses had no shelter from the wind and it had 13 blind holes. It was rumoured that the course had been designed by Stevie Wonder.
Machrie Golf Course has since been redesigned by David J Russell and it is a pale shadow of the former golf course with all the character ripped out of it.
All courses and tees are rated now islay.

All based on 113.....as an average course.

    So.....drumoig yellow 125, drumoig green 121.

So say I go and play carnoustie back tees say 138 (don't know if it is)

    I take my 6.8 handicap x 138 ÷ 113.....to get my playing hcap for that day......8.3 ....so 8

Every course has a board though but I like to do the MATH.😁

Similarly an easier course say 108.

    6.8 x 108 ÷ 113.....6.5.......still 7.

System has many good points and a couple of wee snags.

I'd class handicap as a form guide now rather than an old style hcap.....much more reflective of how you are currently playing especially if you play 2 or 3 times a week......bounce games can also be hcap counting now.

Thanks for the information. It looks like the SGU have taken a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
I am surprised that bounce games also count for the new handicap system.
It will only be a matter of time before gimme putts are counted as part of the new handicap system.
