Pretty sure the guy that used to live in the house we just bought was from there - we're getting tons of mail addressed to "The Occupier".

It the official designation...Wander if the old dwellers gone to settle somewhere else - guess you'll fence the left behinds - and box the envelope.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the most holy and special sites in Christianity. Located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem...



Notice a small ladder under the top right window, it has been there since,......well, the so-called "immovable ladder" has been outside outside a window at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jeruselam's old City since at least the 1750's.

I don't get it with the ladder.....and I know it's not "immovable" because it's been nicked before now,So is it the same ladder, or did they make a new one ?....but I still don't get it, " wow, there's that a little old ladder that someone forgot to take away, so it was left there cos noone can decide what to do with it".....they even built a poxy railing to.....protect it ? - nutty or what !

The earliest record of the ladder is in a 1728 engraving by Elzearius Horn. In 1757, the same year the Status Quo was introduced, Ottoman sultan Abdul Hamid I mentioned the ladder in a firman, and because everything was to be left “as it was” according to the royal decree, the ladder had to stay as it was too. An 1842 lithograph by David Roberts also shows the ladder in place. The earliest photograph showing the ladder dates from the 1850s. By the end of the 19th century, the ladder was being used to bring food to Armenian monks imprisoned by the Turks. Turkish accounts mention the ladder being used by Armenian monks to clean the windows above the ledge. The Byzantine cornice the ladder rests on has been used by the public during festivals.

During his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1964, Pope Paul VI described the ladder as a visible symbol of Christian division. In 1997, the ladder was supposedly pulled in through the window and hidden behind an altar by a Protestant Christian intending "to make a point of the silliness of the argument over whose ledge it is." It was returned to the ledge weeks later, and a grate was installed in the window. In 2009, the ladder was placed against the left window for a short period before being moved back again.



The Edicule (from the Latin aedicule, or "little house"), a small structure within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, encloses the remains of a cave that has been venerated since at least the fourth century A.D. as the tomb of Jesus Christ.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open.”

How on earth is peace ever going to come to Jerusalem Balan?

The Saudis and the Turks want to take over from the Jordanians in marshalling Islamic "interests" in protecting Islam's third holiest site outside of Mecca?

The Israelis need to have overall control of Jerusalem otherwise the security of the Jewish state is compromised.

Christians of various denominations all have vested interests in the site and the splendid photos you are showing.

Trying to unravel this one is way beyond ordinary mortals.

I wonder if God would like to step back in?
