    Kyle Bennett trial ends

"Kyle Bennett won’t be involved [at Boston], however, after it was decided that it was best for the former Portsmouth man to explore opportunities elsewhere.
“I had a good chat with Kyle yesterday,” said the head coach. “He’s a player I really like and it’s been enjoyable working with him over the last few weeks.

“When he initially joined us we were very light in the midfield area but, following the arrivals of Ed Francis and Matt Palmer, the overall picture has changed for us and I think it’s going to be difficult to strike a deal which is suitable for both Kyle and the club.

“This decision isn’t a reflection of his ability, character or professionalism – I simply wanted to be transparent with him to give him the best chance of finding the right opportunity as soon as possible.

“As with Damien McCrory, Kyle is welcome to continue training with us while he searches for a new club. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the right move comes both players’ way.”

Quite surprised at this and more so the IB seems to suggest that he is happy with his options in 'midfield'. Centrally, I'd agree, particularly if we sign one of the trialists, bit I still feel we are light in the more advanced, wide positions. If Cal or Ruben are out, where's the strength in depth? Sam and Knight? Dubious.

Out wide we have Nemane, Taylor could play more advanced and that's on top of Sam and Knight as well

I suppose it depends on budget first and foremost. If Reid wanted X amount but IB was unwilling to offer that as a squad filler then it’s the correct decision. It was interesting that they had a long chat. I would assume it was about possible pay and role in the squad. How long does it really take to say ‘thanks for coming over but you aren’t in my plans, but you can train with us still’?

I was surprised too. I guess what we don’t know is, did Bennett want regular first team football? How much money did he want? Have Notts identified another forward and need money left in the budget to secure the signing?

Nemane and Taylor are wingbacks though, not forwards? If Roberts or Rodders are out (which let's face it, is entirely possible) we have Sam and Knight to step in. They weren't up to it last season. This worries me.

Nemane has been an out and out wide forward player so far in his career. I think we might use him as a wing back as well on occasion, but he’s definitely first alternative option to Roberts/Rodrigues.

I think Nemane looks like he could be part of a front 3 and Taylor is far more attacking than defensive. I think we need to see Knight after a good pre season, he had no chance last season to perform to his potential after not playing for 2 or 3 months. I personally think we need another CB if we're playing 3 at the back, as Brindley may need to play RWB at times, Lacey seems to be quite injury prone and playing against real direct teams I'm not sure Chicksen would be right. Then of course a CF, not sure where we go with Sam, I'm sure IB has had enough time now to assess if he's suited to his play and this league.
