Barnsley are closing in on a permanent deal for Burnley youngster Josh Benson.

The midfielder was not involved for the Clarets in Tuesday's friendly at Blackpool amid interest from the Tykes with a deal believed to be close.

The move is expected to be confirmed in the coming days and is likely to be announced as undisclosed although it is understood that with add-ons the deal could net Burnley around £1million.

Barnsley have had to fend off Championship competition to get ahead in the race for Benson, with Luton Town, Millwall, and Birmingham City, all credited with interest within a report from The Athletic two weeks ago.

With 10 days to go before we kick off we need to get some bodies in to the place? Especially in Midfield so I hope this lad is a good enough replacement for Mowatt?
Will be a tiny Midfield though with this lad, Styles and that waste of space Kane! At least Palmer is over 4ft 10.

That's the problem as I see it Perks , maybe he is gifted and talented , but someone with height and experience is needed in midfield , Halme did a good stand in job a few times , he isn't a midfielder though , it's worrying to think what will happen if this area (midfield) has not been addressed properly before season begins, we need Experience and Height ,
