In the past people used to walk to save money on bus fares but thanks to the Nanny State that no longer happens.

I agree that if crusties get it youngsters should get it, however I'd go further and say if crusties and youngsters get it everybody should get it. Where does that end? Free flights, free trains, free holidays to The Algarve?

In a society where people, particularly younger people, now expect everything to be handed to them and are happy to be told by government when they can go out and when they can't I just think it's another step in a very wrong direction.

You can get a free bus to and from the pub but you can only go there at 7.30 and you must be out by 9.30 - don't even think about standing up with your pint either.
I'm more than happy to contribute to the cost of this through my taxes as there are loads of positives in this move.

Ricketts and cholera also used to happen but thankfully we've moved on from those days.

31% (and growing) of Dundonian children live in poverty, freedom of movement will help alleviate that for some of them and perhaps help young adults get jobs.

I'm not against it, just think it's a slippery slope to be on in a society that now expects, and will continue to expect, more for less.

I used to walk to my primary school in all weathers and get the bus to Morgan Academy. Nowadays children are driven to school by their parents. I cannot see this changing after the novelty of free travel on the buses has worn off particularly in wet weather.
Why does their need to be an I had it tough so you should have it tough too approach?

I'd like to think things could get better and better for every generation. If we don't take actions for the future then really what's the point?

you said it it was "another step in a very wrong direction". I took that to mean you were against it, i must have misunderstood.

Freedom of movement will do nothing to alleviate child poverty. People can move freely (or should be able to) regardless of living conditions.

I'm not accepting that 31% of children in Dundee live in poverty; for that to be the case the definition of poverty has to be very loose because I'm pretty sure the vast majority of children in Dundee have mobile phones and / or games consoles. That's certainly the impression I get simply by observing and based on no real information.

I also read a report (https://www.gov.scot/publications/sc...port/pages/62/) that stated 70% of Scottish children aged 2 to 15 were of a healthy weight whilst as many as 16% were obese or in danger of becoming obese (https://www.obesityactionscotland.or...20since%202016.) - that doesn't say poverty to me and I don't see Dundee being too different from the rest of the country.

I went to Edinburgh to do my Degree, for the most part was totally skint and at times never thought i could afford to go. Free travel would have been a great help.

When i was younger than that my mum, two sisters and me shared a room in Douglas for 5 years. Again, free travel would have been a right help, maybe even for days out.

We got to do whatever we can to get some of these kids out of poverty into the working world so they can in turn pay more taxes and provide things like the NHS where they're supposed to be.
