No significance at all form me. We lost a dead ball specialist and captain and have replaced him with an unknown.
The initial post is badly written - so no surprise that people are not fully understanding what I’m saying here.
In the era of Patrick - we would have signed someone like Benson on loan - and then when a club had come in and bought him for say £1 million the fans would have been bitterly complaining that we didn’t have the money to buy him.
Unfortunately Patrick didn’t have that type of money.
And then we move on to these owners - who have bought a shed load of players - but they are all in the ‘development category’.
The signing of Benson is different.
He has the ready made quality that Patrick would have signed on loan.
But because he has that ready made quality he isn’t the type of player these owners, until now, would have signed.
All the other players these owners have signed have had an element of risk attached to them.
SB has produced a list of players that have struggled.
Players like Helic and Mads are in the minority- they went straight into the 1st team and have been a success - but the club didn’t know that when they bought them.
IMO - it’s different with Benson because they know they are getting a player that’s going to be a permanent feature of the 1st team.
Basically what I’m doing here is comparing the Patrick era to this transfer window.
It’s taken all these years for Barnsley to get to a stage where they are able to sign on a permanent basis the likes of a young Drinkwater or Pearson.
I hope that makes a bit more sense.

I know you more than anybody else on here Ponty, was/is a fan of Alex Mowatt.
I was as well of course, but it became clear didn't it that he wanted out and wasnt going to renew his contract. I must admit I don't blame him for that, it annoys me more that the 'owners' haven't addressed this issue and replaced him with somebody of similar quality.
Fingers crossed for the lad Josh Benson from Burnley, but hes not that sort of player is he and it feels like we're lacking in that position.
I don’t think we have.
We have increased our ability to cover the ground faster.
For an example of why I am saying this - see Brentford’s goal at the end of 19/20 season.
And bringing Styles into the centre has given us more drive and trickery in the middle going forward.
We just need to find a left wing back now.
