Reading v Swansea - Carabao Cup 1st Round

Reading v Swansea, Carabao Cup, Tue 10 Aug, kick off 20:00
Hey-ho off we go again and hoping for a better result this time but expecting the worst.
New signing Joel Piroe, unexplainably missing on Saturday, should start, and there will be other changes as new head-coach Russell Martin further assesses his threadbare squad.
It’s hard to be optimistic for this match though when a pretty average Blackburn side, with no new signings and missing their top scorer, ran rings round us on Saturday. Undoubtedly if Steve Cooper was still in charge the result would have been different.
Fans have been clamouring for a change to the boring football of Cooper’s reign, but will they be patient enough when they see us losing every week in this transitional phase.
In mitigation there have been many departures, injuries and suspensions. With three incomings, one already injured, and two new signings reportedly having medicals yesterday and today, disruption is understandable.
I predict another demoralising defeat with the weak players we’ve got to select from at the moment.

Impressive last night but don’t get too excited, Reading put out a weakened side, saving most of their players for the league due to a transfer ban.
The bigger test is the home match next Sat night v Sheff Utd, with Brewster and McBurnie in their line-up.
Still it was useful match time for the players to gel to the new system.
