She said that it's relatively simple to convert gas boilers to run on Hydrogen but fitting the kit to convert it at the moment needs a specialist skill which your everyday plumber doesn't have, this is what she is working on is making this kit usable by your usual central heating boy.
Hope this dosent sound patronising but I find this stuff pretty interesting if a bit bamboozling.
If it's simple enough to convert why arnt plumbers being trained to do it?
All I hear from the green lobby is ways of stopping people doing things......but this seems different and doable.
You’re listening to the wrong people then.
I’m not long finished a Sustainable Business course with Harvard and there are great projects going on all around the world that are all about doing things, not stopping doing things.
Unfortunately In this country the happy clappers love a tv appearance and they are indulged.
One of the biggest problems with hydrogen is it’s high level of flammability combined with being virtually invisible and odourless.
Last year (or maybe even the year before it’s all one now) I visited the MSIP to look at its suitability for an EV Charging solution for a London company and while there they showed me the potential conversion from
Ballumbie rubbish to hydrogen for refuelling Dundee busses. Obviously technology has come a long way but all it’s gonna take is one accident like a zeppelin explosion and the panic button will be hit.
Amazing what we all get up to while not watching Dundee!
But that's kinda what amazed me that a "govt" backed scheme were more than happy to give me a new gas boiler and 7 radiators.....ok it's a much more efficient boiler and replaces an 18 year old one (was still working perfectly ok) but with all this stuff on the telly and papers I honestly thought they wouldn't replace like for like.
And how many more folk will be getting the same, speaking to the surveyor and plumbers it seemed like it was pretty common.
Hydrogen brings a lot of issues but we can’t keep relying on fossil I think even OPEC would agree on that ,storage pressures are a problem and it’s also low in dense energy compared to natural gas ,even the methods for producing it ,you can use gas or even coal which seems counterproductive and a bit bonkers tbh you also need 3.2 times hydrogen to natural gas for equal energy output so essentially you need Shyte loads more ,it’s funny you mention the Zeppelin incident it’s what everyone thinks of immediately…I suppose I picked up something from school…!!!
Don’t know if it will be in my lifetime but probably a mix of renewable/hydrogen/electric/GSHP/CHP/solar/PV will carry the brunt of energy demands….
The stuff The Auld Yin’s daughter is working on has got me intrigued though …..jeez need to get back to Dens….!!!!!
