    I don’t believe it’s solely NW Rail.
If a road is closed then it has to go through the local planning department.
NW Rail may have built the Meccano bridge - but Barnsley Council will have sanctioned it.

Nudge I'm sorry the bridge doesn't fit your agenda .

The rail network is the rail network and a separate entity .

Network Rail are at the moment looking to replace every footbridge in the UK and inviting tenders plus model builds to get a piece of the action .

There isn't a local authority voice as part of that process , trust me there isn't .

I've seen Tory MP's at my place of work along with Network Rail figures .

This is a billion pound contract to the winner .

My place of work have designed and manufactured a model bridge and shown it at an event this summer .

There was absolutely nobody from Kirklees council or anybody else in local authority involved .

    None what so ever .

Just to add , Network Rail have the clout to build another railway station further down the road in a town I won't mention and cause absolute mayhem in that town regarding traffic etc when from what I here there's very little wrong with the original one .

The goings on in Brent Cross in London are fascinating on another matter within the rail industry .

It's incredible the amount of socialism that exists in this government when certain palms are greased .

You don't know the half of it Nudge .

We’ll have to differ on that then.
I’ll just say this - as an individual, organisation or business just try to block a public right of way without notifying the local authority and see what happens.

That's not how it plays out Nudge , the council dance to the network rail tune because they have very little leverage .

Money talks and local authorities have had their wings clipped big time not only under Tory governments but Blair's so called Labour government too .

The industry I work in is a real eye opener Nudge .

Don't get me wrong it's great for me personally because I'm on a fair crack but for the country well that's another matter .

There's more spivs in this game than on cup final day outside Wembley stadium .

I kid you not mate .

I've worked in the rail industry for 36 years, mainly on rolling stock but some infrastructure as well, and just want to back up everything Animal has said Nudge.

I had 10 months working as a leading consultant in the Corus offices outside the train station on Toft Green in York.
They have since changed their name and moved to other offices.
Last I heard they were called Tata.
I’m still in contact with people up there.
I do understand why the train fares are extortionate.
Only structure in Barnsley that I worked on is the ‘new’ foot bridge at Bolton upon Dearne station.

Might be a daft suggestion but couldn’t the trains around kick off / end of game be delayed for 15 minutes?
