Deid - legendary Sus*** and England batsman

Ted Dexter, a giant at the crease, and handy change bowler from the other end, aged 86. Booooooo.

Just off my radar since I came late to cricket relatively recently ago in 1965, by which time Barrington and JH Edrich were masterfully fending off the new ball, although Ted continued to be selected on and off for a couple of years thereafter.

He bagged 4502 runs in 62 tests in ten years at 47.89. 27 half centuries and 9 hunners, and 66 wickets at 34.93, once returning 4/10.

    Later, was chairman of selectors.

A memorable Headingley weekend in prospect - if it lasts that long - will be a fine tribute.

    RIP sir.

Agree, bit before my time so I knew him more as a crusty auld selector rather than "an aggressive middle-order batsman of ferocious power and a right-arm medium bowler". Bit like myself then...

    RIP Lord Ted.
