I remember paying 9d (old money) to get into the pictures. (Movies) School bus cost 1d one way, I used to take the bus in the morning then spend the other penny on sweets and walk home. I remember paying about 1 shilling and sixpence for the train from Shields to Newcastle. Happy days.

You have reminded me about bus prices Canny Lad. When we first moved to Tynemouth in late1949 the bus fare to Newcastle for a junior was 5 old pence (2 new) single and 7 pence (3 new P) return.

Not money-related but when my lass was at Uni in the mid to late 90s and hardly anyone had mobiles, she had a pager where you phoned a number, told them the message and they sent it to her by scrolling text.

They weren't fans of either my potty mouth or my filthy mind.

Anyone remember Old Spice tobacco sweets. Came in a small paper packet, with a sailing ship on the front. It opened up just like a packet of baccy.

Contents looked like tobacco. But it was sweets.

    Or is just me?

I remember the smoker's set made of sweets. About a foot square with cigs, cigars, pipes and rolls of baccy, all made with sweets and icing and the proper colours too, but smoking wasn't frowned down upon then.

I remember taking them to school and friends and myself pulling them out in front of a teacher. We were careful to choose a friendly teacher with a sense of humour as they were very realistic looking.
