    Swansea v Hull

    Saturday 11 Sep 2021 15:00
It’s a welcome return to Championship football today after the two week International break.
It’s also the green light for a return to capacity crowds at stadiums again. Whether we will have a capacity crowd at the Swansea.com stadium this afternoon is debatable though as some fans are understandably still hesitant about mixing in crowded places.
The opposition are last season’s League One Champions Hull City.
After a brilliant 1-4 win at Preston on the opening day of the season they’ve suffered three straight defeats before breaking the sequence, drawing 0-0 at home to Bournemouth last time out.
Boss Grant McCann will be boosted by the return of last season’s top-scorer Mallik Wilks, George Moncur and possibly Josh Magennis for today’s match.
Swans meanwhile have hopefully used the two week break well, got their fitness levels up and are fully understanding of the new system RM wants us to play.
Since the Preston debacle we are boosted by new signings Rhys Williams, Olivier Ntcham and Michael Obafemi, who will all play some part in today’s match.
Liam Walsh, Flynn Downes and Ben Cabango have also returned to training following injury and illness respectively, but it may be a bit early for them.

    Swans 0 - Hull 0
With almost 70% possession and 16 shots on goal Swans still failed to find the net. To be fair they played very well and should have had a penalty second half when Laird was brought down, but ref Stroud waved play on.
Hull were resolute in defence and kept out everything that the Swans could throw at them, relying on quick counter attacks but nothing that troubled goalkeeper Hamer until the final minutes when he made a good save from Longman.
The wait continues for the Swans first home league win of the season as they hover just above the bottom three in 21st place, with 4 points from a possible 18 after 6 games.

jackaway - that’s 5 points from a possible 18, not 4, still not good reading though.
There were positive signs yesterday that it will get better and Swans fans will have to hold their nerve a bit longer until results improve.
It was always going to be tough changing the system and to allow time for the players to gel, keep the faith and give the guy a chance, I say.

Iolo says that was much better from the Swans, all that was missing was goals.
Different tactics from Hull, no high press, they let us have the ball in our own half and defended in depth, rarely coming out and attacking the ball, and got the point they came for.

Good debuts from Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams and ex-Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, also looking good was Flynn Downes.
Shame the ref spoilt the game with his strange decisions, waving away a blatant penalty for a foul on Laird and then another when Paterson was body checked in the penalty box. Seconds later he booked Paterson for doing the same thing.

New Head Coach Russell Martin was happy enough anyway -
"I thought the performance was excellent. We've limited a team to one shot on target in the whole game. We had complete dominance and complete control off the back of intensity. The only frustration is we didn't score. The next bit is going to come.”
