    Clutching at straws

There used to be a standing joke that if you drank Guinness you qualified to play for Ireland.

I’ve just watched the news and saw a piece on Emma Raducanu who looks to have a great future especially as she’s still only 18 but looking at her background we find out she was born in Toronto Canada, her father is Romanian and her mother is Chinese.

Johanna Konta was born in Sydney Australia, her mother and father were Hungarian.

Greg Rusedski was born in Montreal Canada, his father was Polish/Ukrainian but at least his mother was English.

We should start sending out packages containing fish and chips and flat caps to all the promising tennis players around the world then maybe we’ll have some success.

To be fair to Emma she's been in the UK since she was two years old .

    What's more she's a phenomenal tennis player .

I agree animal, she’s the best prospect I’ve seen for a long time and I’ll cheer for her whenever she’s playing.

My post was only a tongue in cheeks comment as to why we shouldn’t have criticized other nations ethics because we aren’t that shy at moving the goalposts to suit our own needs going back to Zola Bud right up to Sky Brown in the Olympics.

First qualifier ever to reach the US Open semi final .

Ranked 361 in the world .

    18 years of age .

To say this is an achievement is a bit of an understatement .

I thought when she did well at Wimbledon this year she'd be a decent prospect but I never thought she'd be this good two months later .

Saw her speaking on tv yesterday. Seems a lovely, happy down to earth girl. Hope she wins it.
