Today it has been announced that two new ferries are going to be built for the Kennacraig to Islay route. What this CMAL press release failed to mention is that the new ferries are too long, too wide and too deep to berth at any of the piers used on the Kennacraig to Islay route plus sailings to Colonsay. This will result in £16.4 Million (2021 prices) having to be spent to alter the piers to be able to allow the new ferries to safely berth at the piers. Who is paying for this. The taxpayer of course.
When will this work be carried out. The work at the piers will probably be finished years after the new Islay ferries are built and ready to go into service.
The maximum passenger capacity on the new ferries is to be 350 passengers which is 200 less than the main ferry on the route the MV Finlaggan.(Source 2nd Islay virtual ferry meeting). The CMAL and Calmac bosses do not think this will be a problem but if more visitors decide to travel to Islay as foot passengers instead of taking their car there is a danger that foot passengers including local Islay residents could be told that their ferry is full and they will have to wait for the next ferry assuming that it is not the last sailing of the day.
**** the Army and navy, send for the Scottish Resistance. 😁

People have been moaning and predicting the death of this board for donkeys now, but it just keeps plodding along, you actually get the feeling they long for the day it closes down, just to say I told you so

It is no laughing matter when the shelves selling fresh produce in Bowmore Co-op are stripped bare because the HGVs delivering goods to Bowmore Co-op cannot get on the remaining ferry because it is full. I would have thought that Commercial vehicles delivering lifeline goods and services would have had priority on the remaining ferry on the Kennacraig to Islay ferry route but that does not appear to be the case.
Yesterday afternoon a Parks of Hamilton bus drove past our house. I saw the same bus last week passing our house which means that it is bringing tourists to Islay for a day trip.
In my opinion this is hardly a priority. One of the local buses on Islay could have been used as a stop gap to free up space on the vehicle deck of the MV Finlaggan ferry
I have just sent an email to Graeme Dey who is the Scottish Government Transport Minister explaining the current situation with his ferry the MV Hebridean Isles and giving him two suggestions to resolve this problem in the short term until the MV Hebridean Isles ferry is permanently repaired and safe to travel on.

I previously sent Mr Dey a question about Calmac ferries. He did not reply but instead forwarded my question to Transport Scotland for them to answer. The reply I received my reply from an ‘expert’ in Transport Scotland which contained a mistake which basically says it all as far as staff at Transport Scotland are concerned.
The latest information from the Calmac website confirms Islay residents and tourists on the island worst fears. The hull of the MV Hebridean Isles is phucked and it is sailing tomorrow to dry dock at Garvel for repairs
resulting in only one Calmac ferry on the Kennacraig to Islay route up to and including Thursday 23rd September 2021. https://www.calmac.co.uk/service-status?route=09

I heard calmac took out a superinjunction to stop people knowing the only reason that Ferry is going into dry dock is to annoy someone, with the initials D.T. being mentioned....

Must be true cos I read it online

I was planning to attend the Dundee v St Johnstone League Cup tie next Wednesday but that now looks in serious doubt resulting in one less spectator at the game.
