Obviously Mellish has scored a couple, but his lack of awareness has also cost us points at Hartlepool and Crawley. He had a decent half hour against Salford, but that's one half hour in seven games. He'd be on the bench to cover left sided centre-back of left-back.

Guy has been appalling this season.

Jensen looked decent in the CCU trophy, Norman has been awful. Easy decision.

Feeney for McDonald is another easy one, he's twice as fast.

Clough's our best player on the ball so needs to be in central midfield, Gibson looked lively on Saturday, Mampala's a big unit (essential in tier four) and Young needs to be playing (in the absence of Fishburn).

In the middle of a mid field four (if that is possible) . What I notice is that he is always there or thereabouts when a goal is scored and that leads to him getting a lot of chances himself

I watch Mellish sometimes in awe, often with amusement and then with complete frustration. In short, he’s always entertaining. He has the energy to be a great box-to-box midfielder which would work best in a 3 or a 5 which is our set-up of choice at present, but he would have to managed. How often do we see him playing side to side, or running diagonals, often up a blind alley and crowding other players who are trying to fulfill their own roles. When we are in possession he need to be told to play within the confines of the outer lines of the penalty boxes, from our own penalty spot (as I mentioned, he gets in the way) to the opposition goal-line. When the opposition have it he needs to be in our half chasing.

I can't ever condone Mellish in our team as a midfielder. The amount of pointless running he does chasing the ball is criminal. Plus, he lacks the technique and composure required on the ball to dictate the game in the middle of the park.

I can see the justification of playing him as a striker mind you, or having him in the squad as left sided defensive cover.

You can run about "between the width of the penalty box" as a striker and be more effective. He could use his abundant energy working the channels or fighting for headers where his "mad dog" approach would be better suited, plus he can clearly finish.

Replacing him in the midfield with a Charters, Clough, Dixon or Devine, would aid our other midfielders exponentially as they're all more intelligent players who are better on the ball. With Mellish in midfield you're effectively ensuring we're outnumbered in the middle of the park and make it inevitable we bypass this area of the pitch and go long...

I see Comedy Chris has made derogatory comments about Young & Mampala's goals for the reserves.

Apparently these goals are worth less, according to the Longball Yoda anyway, as Fleetwood had a young team out.

He's like Abbot & Kavanagh's lovechild. All of Greg's bizarre team selection and inability to ever admit a mistake coupled with Kavanagh's stunning tactical ineptitude.

We've seen the script, this does not end well.
