Contemporary football fans dont really have a grasp of what real football is like. Despite the money, academies, up to date training, coaches of all descriptions.

Academies turn out robotic borg like drones, who are unable to think for themselves or if they have any talent they have been trained not to express it for fear it may not work.

Last night, i watched Willie Carr playing for Coventry, an ex St Bedes pupil by the way. He is right footed, and was taking corners on the right side of that wonderful ground, Highfield Road, with the outside of his right foot.

His first corner, he attempted to score, Jimmy Rimmer just being able to curl backwards to tip it over the bar.

It was going in. Thats right, he curled it in with the outside of his right foot, on the right side.

With other corners, using the outside of his right foot, he could put it where he wanted.

If you watched his face, it wasnt like he was concentrating hard, or gave any sign it was nothing but normal. He could do it at will.

That is talent.

All the players in that game had technique, its how you do it.

I am sure that if a youngster turned out for a youth team from whatever club, he would be quickly dissuaded from doing that.

Because the talent is still there, its the coaching. This is just one example of how modern football st inks. Im sure youngsters think of the outside of their feet is for standing on.

You pay your 20 quid today and get a five year old scribbling with crayons, compared to a 1975 master piece.

Id love to know what goes on in those academies. None of it is of any use.

Still raining Oh, if you dont believe a word of this watch big match revisited january 1975, Dickie Guy saves a Lorimer penalty. Maybe coaches should watch it too.
