Statement seems to be blaming it all on Covid-19. It's a wonder they didn't chuck in the famous old gypsy curse as well.

Tempted to tune into Radio Derby tomorrow pre-match for the drama.

Yes, it did seem that the blame was laid squarely at covid's door. Probably convenient, but not entirely believable given how unsustainably football clubs are run in normal times.

Derby's finances have been somewhat murky for years, back in the early 2000s it wasn't even clear who actually owned the club.

Sad to see them in this state, we know how it feels. And regardless of financial mismanagement, it's the fans who really suffer.

So the owner there has finally decided to pull the plug.

Isn't he in for about 200 million quid all told? That is one hell of a vanity project.

Oh yeah he'll be absolutely fine. It never fails to disgust me how people like that will drop 9 figures on tranfers, wages and agents' fees, but their exit strategy involved shafting small businesses and suppliers by going into admin. So much for wanting to put a smile on the face of the city.

Looking at Forest, Derby and Leciester, a few years ago they were all top end of the Championship, and they all bet the farm on promotion to the Prem.

Leicester managed to get up and the rest is history, Forest and Derby both just missed out, an now are in big trouble - one or both of them will be playing in L1 next season. Fine margins.

(Sheffield Wednesday are another, and they're already in League 1.) The wages-to-income ratio at these clubs - and others in the Championship - is crazy and unsustainable.

The irony is that they both have extremely highly rated youth set-ups and produced plenty of excellent players for their senior team over the past decade, and should have been looking to build on this rather than chasing success yesterday.

The above quoted clubs and examples of shocking mismanagement only further stresses the importance of the ownership of any football club.

It certainly puts our ‘I hate this league’ and ‘are we too soft’ discussions in context. I wouldn’t swap this league or our leaky defence for Derby’s or the other lots position. I’m inclined to agree with those that say we are very lucky to have our current owners and manger and players (even if it’s not quite perfect). COYP!

For me the true ironing is. New owner comes in, unwisely spends a shed load of money on ''chasing the dream'', realises it's all going Pete Tong. Bales while he still has a few quid left, leaves club on it's knees and more often than not a division or two lower than when he arrived, (if not worse). Who does the FL punish? The club that's already on its knees. You couldn't make it up. Remind me, who's responsible for the vetting of new owners?
