You as far as I am aware we’re not involved with the football club, you may have been a fan or supporter but you were not involved with any of the players and there were a lot of things that went off within the club that the supporters didn’t know about. You write your fairy stories on this site without even checking if they are true or not.I heard a story long ago that there was a man who lived on the moon but unfortunately like your stories it was untrue.

    That portrayal is wrong.
They sucked every last penny from the club.
It’s only when the Dennis family got more involved that things started to change for the better.
Once again you do not know what you are talking about,I think you have a very bad case of verbal diarrhoea

And with all accounts (I don’t know whether true or not) he refused help from Patrick.
BUT - I’m sure most will agree - we had the best years under Big JD.
And - he built the stadium and training facilities that are still there to this day.
I thought it was the collapse of ITV Digital that led to administration.

A bit like Barnsley losing the Sky TV income today.

    You are such a gent.

Agree with you regarding a bit of experience needed in the team.
However - describing these owners as playing video games while things in the past were such a garden of roses ……. is !?!?!

Allegedly it was Mr X sitting on his cheque book wanting full control of the club rather just making the investment John Dennis wanted. In the end the club went into admin and Mr X got the club by default.

In the times I was at the club the computers had not been invented, the club scouts went out watching matches in all weathers for expenses only such as Colin (I forget his other name)He told us about Anton Otulakowski and his team was due to play against our under 18s a few days later. After Anton had played against us I went into their dressing room and asked if we could sign him on a transfer. It was agreed and I signed Antons first transfer form making him a Barnsley player and the rest is history thanks to scouts like Colin. This was the way we brought young players into the club.I know some of the young players that have been brought into the club using Billy Beans computer study have worked but some have not.I still believe in using scouts to check player’s suitability is better than watching a computer screen,it’s a pity that the owners didn’t work the scouts alongside the computer results.During the time of Jim Iley we were in the 4th division with crowds of 3 to 4 thousand and the club were losing money. Our directors at the time were not multi-millionaires,we had brought a few young players into the first team but within the period of a few days 3 of them were transferred to other clubs.Jim Iley was told he had to sell to raise money.I remember a match just after the young players were transferred,I was at the top of the old tunnel watching the players and Jim come up.We had won the match by about 4-1 but all you could hear from the supporters was “Iley out” I remember Jim turning to me and saying “What the hell do they want we won didn’t we” and “The players that I was told to sell were those that you helped to bring through”Jim had tears in his eyes during our conversation.Arthur Dennis was the chairman at the time and it was him who told Jim Iley to sell the players but the supporters took it out of Jim not Arthur Denniss which was so unfair. You can say that the directors made the decision to sell the players to raise money to keep the club from going bust because there was not enough revenue coming through the turnstiles to keep the club afloat.Although I was at the club at the time I didn’t know what went off in the boardroom but I do know that Jim Iley would have loved to keep those young players at Oakwell but was forced to sell and after the sales he was given a pittance out of the transfer fees to try and rebuild the team. Was the directors right in forcing Jim to sell to keep the club going?I don’t know because I didn’t know how bad the club finances were but it was wrong of the board to let Jim Iley take the blame.
And that my dear Nudger is how to tell the truth about what happened at the club then.Unlike you I was there at the time and do not need to make up fairytales which is what you tend to specialise in.

I thought 'Out' was his third name so thats why fans called him that.

And anyway going back to whether those were the best days under John Dennis, that is arguable of course.
