    Roger Hunt

Another truly great player has gone to play for the great team “ upstairs”. In 1966 it was always Moore, Hurst and Peters. However ,contributions from the likes of Hunt , were always equally invaluable, even if they didn’t get the praise they should have had. A great club player, and humble off it, always happy to stay in the background, whilst others got all the glory.
A great club player too, one of the finest to play at Anfield, as the great Bill Shankly set about changing the foundations, which has since allowed Liverpool to rise from the depths of the old” second division, into the club they are today.
He must have played at the Turf. He must have scored at the Turf at some stage. The world will be a poorer place without him, especially in football circles. Anyone out there have any fond memories of watching him play ?I’d like to know.

Really sad to read this earlier today. HE was one of my favourite non-Claret players.
He was a very good player who had really good positional sense and made the game look easy in an era when the lads up front were used to getting knocked about a bit!
RIP Roger Hunt and thanks for the memories.

He was 31 when he joined us and that was old for a footballer in them days. Not as quick as he had been in his prime and I was not alone in worrying whether or not he was a worthwhile signing but his positional sense was as good as ever and he still delivered a goal every third game.
He was a poacher, with great movement which allowed him to score plenty from close range. The player who was most similar to him in my mind was Lineker a generation later.
Above all Roger Hunt was a gent. He made time for the fans, was well-spoken and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
    RIP.
