Widely reported as true, MA. Just insane...how does that achieve anything other than make us weaker?
A little ironic given how we preyed on Wigan for Byrne and Marshall, but what is the possible benefit of making us move on a valuable asset for about a tenth of his value. Madness!

What would happen if Shinnie or any other player for that matter didn't want to leave, can't force them to sign elsewhere

You’re missing the value of avoided wages. Let’s say 20k a week x 15 weeks (I guess) before the end of his contract = £300,000, very significant in such times. We can manage without Shinnie, we can’t manage without cash

I’ll always bow to your superior knowledge of accountancy...but doesn’t that actually translate to...we’ve ‘given away’ an asset probably worth between £300-400k for £30k while maybe saving up to £300k in wages and significantly weakening our squad/reducing our chances of on the pitch survival in the process?
I’m sorry but I really don’t see how that helps and, I obviously wouldn’t know, but I’d be quite surprised if Shinnie is on £20k per week too. Actually I’d be surprised if he was on as much as half that making the ‘saving’ even less significant and the ‘sale’ more ludicrous.

Interestingly, given our GAAP player amortisation policy we've probably lost more on giving him away for next to nothing than we have saved in wages, although for P&S we may have done a better deal

Rumours abound that the low value is due to Wigan writing off monies allegedly still owed for Marshy and Byrne. No idea if that's true.
