My thought is that this season he is not up to par and far below his potential. The only reason for this that I can think is that the burden of captain is too much at this stage of his life (two young kids) and career and he should concentrate on what he does best - box-to-box midfielder. Do we agree? And if you agree who do you think could replace him - as I suggest on another thread my choice would be Howard.

I think that when others around him are lacking confidence he thinks he has to try harder as captain and it can all go wrong, so it often does. He’s been one of our below average players fr me this season and he’s far more capable that that. Still prefer him to Mellish though.
