Sending offs and multiple bookings aside he's just not a very good footballer. Fuchs does his job and more so no need for him to be in our starting line up unless we have injuries in central defence or at a push central midfield. Maybe if The Butch was a few inches taller he would have made a decent centre half and got more gam time in that position but he's a smallish centre half trying to be a midfielder and he's just not got the ability.
    spot on !

That's what people said about Harkes, that was wrong

He is better than given credit for is Butcher, wasn't even fully match fit as hadn't played since mid September, once he is back upto speed he'll be back in form

He was already part of a Utd stud that were fighting for second before the infamous January sales, was excellent in beside Paton for a period, Motherwell away in the cup stands out

He is currently part of a side in the top four

It was said these guys couldn't do it for us once we got promoted, they not only helped turn us from a shambles to get our respect back at championship level, they helped us stay up comfortably last season and have helped us this season

They should really be held in high esteem imo

I sincerely hope he got fined the maximum allowed by the club for his stupidity v The Sheep,he has badly let down his manager, fellow players and the fans.
Fair enough in that particular game he was dug out a hole by a fan,Ojo and the rest of the players but he would have played in the two away games that followed due to injuries to our first choice midfielders.
While he served his two match suspension Tam was forced to field players either simply not good enough or too inexperienced at Premiership level. Some players have been criticised on the Motherwell match thread and rightly so but Butcher is just as culpable as any of them for his stupidity and i reckon he should have given the club and its supporters a public apology.

To be honest I don't think Butcher would have made much difference to the performance against Motherwell. We were hopeless in possession of the ball and created little. Butcher wouldn't have changed that. In nearly 400 hours of football in the league this season with Butcher on the pitch we scored 1 solitary goal and created very little. Fuchs and Levitt were the big misses.

We'll never know obviously but I think he would have made a difference, for sure. It wasn't a night for playing paint football anyway and he would have completed much better in the middle of the park pushing the game away from our goal.

You are gonna have to explain your thinking on that as we have played 16x1.5hr games and Butcher has missed quite a few of those, so that cannot in any way equate to 400 hours!

Yeah, I wondered if it was supposed to be 40 hours, but even that seems a bit off.

I'm guessing he means 400 minutes, which is almost exactly what Butcher has played this season.
