Bournemouth v Swansea

Here it is then, our third game in a week and it’s away to top of the table Bournemouth. Unbeaten in 15 games, Preston took that record on Wednesday night, beating them 1-2 for Bournemouth’s first defeat of the season.
Is that a good thing or not for the Swans this Saturday as they try to emulate Preston’s brave showing, we’ll soon find out. Bournemouth will be smarting from that defeat and will be determined to bounce back in style.
The Swans had a great result on Tuesday night, winning 1-2 at Coventry who were unbeaten at home and fourth in the table. They played the same side that beat Peterborough so convincingly last Saturday 3-0.
The last time we played three games in a week, the third one we lost to Birmingham through not rotating the squad and the players faded badly in the second half. This time I expect a few changes, hopefully he can get the balance right. We will have the advantage of a days extra recuperation, whilst Bournemouth have the advantage of a second consecutive home game, so no travelling.

Oh dear, back down to Earth with a bump. Wide open defensively after a good start in the first quarter. A penalty appeal turned down after Laird was fouled in the box, then Solanke scored in the 26’ and it was downhill after that.

Solanke couldn’t believe his luck, completely unmarked for both his goals.
Groundhog Day for Martin, his MK Dons team played Bournemouth there in the Cup just before he joined us and got similarly hammered 5-0, no lessons learnt then.

We need a different game strategy away from home. We are too vulnerable at the back and trying to pass the ball out of defence is suicidal with the high press. A slow and ageing centre-back at full back, an ageing full-back as centre-back in a back three doesn’t help either.
