    Never felt so confident about Patto commanding his box since the days of Bart

    Goalies can learn a lot from Pato. He seemed to be in the perfect mental state for a keeper - completely unconscious!
    That comes with youth, but his calm was probably contagious for the back line as well.

    A very good loan spell after a dodgy start. Brennan probably didn't recoup enough positives to cancel out those 3 straight losses, but Pato did.

    Looks like he MIGHT return to Notts at some point.

    He was on the players' Christmas night out photo someone posted on Twitter. Not sure if that's been covered on here.

    In the article shared the Sunderland boss was intimating that he would want Patto to get at least 25 games under his belt this season so if he did come back while we have a fit Slocombe it would definitely throw the cat amongst the pigeons (sorry, wrong thread).

    I shared a chart on the Form Table thread which showed percentage of saves made compared to shots faced and Slocombe came out 3rd best in the league so far. However, whilst everyone on Twitter and FB decided to argue about who was best no one picked up on the fact that the disparity between their results highlights another important point about the way Notts play depending on who's in goal.

    With Patto in goal his confidence on the ball and distribution are such that it allows Notts to play a much higher line defensively. This also results in forcing the opposition into more shots from distance.

    Slocombe is without doubt a great shot stopper and more than earns his corn in this respect but doesn't have the same 'sweeper' skills set as Patto so the defensive line becomes much deeper this in turn allows the opposition to create chances further advanced with goal attempts closer to the goal.

    We have all witnessed this. When Slocombe has the ball at his feet the defenders and wing backs sit deeper and we have to play out from a deeper position. When it's Patto the Notts back line set's up slightly higher up the pitch resulting in the CM's and WB's receiving the ball in a more advanced position which is why we probably appear a little more proactive when Patto is playing.

    A couple of additional metrics help to confirm this;

    Shots faced per 90 minutes, Slocombe 4.34, Patto 2.98.
    Average shot distance faced, Slocombe 16.08m, Patto 19.03m.

    The Notts goal is threatened less with Patto in goal with the higher defensive line forcing the opposition to take shots from further out reducing their scoring potential.
