    Ian Atkins was the answer. Although he is 64 years old and has not been directly involved with a team for a while he had one more 'escape' left in him. An Atkins team would never be applauded for its finess but it would be well organised and simply refuse to lose. Atkins could lassoo the first 20 people walking along Warwick Road and drill them into being a disciplined squad that does not get many cards, probably fewer than the average squad. He would have come in on a massive wave of sentiment by supporters, which would have helped.

    In January with Curle (Oldham), Hill (Sc­unthorpe) and Millen (Carlisle United) trying to improve their squads at no cost, who is going to do best, with the other two in relative terms failing?
