    Barnsley v Swansea

Next up in a three match sequence of games in seven days sees us travel to second from bottom club Barnsley. They’ve just appointed Sweden Under 23’s coach Poya Asbaghi as their new manager and will be looking to dig themselves out of a hole with a dreadful run of results. With just 1 win in his 16 games in charge, previous manager Marcus Schopp was a disastrous appointment and now Asbaghi takes over the reigns for the first time against Swansea on Wednesday night.
For the Swans the focus will be firstly on the ref after the shocking display by Keith Stroud last match and secondly the worrying trend of players stamina levels dropping in the second half of matches.
In our 18 league games so far this season we haven’t been awarded a penalty. Laird, who is probably our most active player in the opposition box, had two penalty appeals, one stonewall, turned down against Blackpool last Saturday and another certain one against Bournemouth not given the match before, and it does seem as if refs have picked him out as a diver.
Last match Russell Martin said our lethargic second half display was down to him possibly overworking the players during the two week break, but the same thing happened at Bournemouth before the break, the excuse then was it being the third match in seven days.
On paper we should win this match but it doesn’t work like that in the Championship, where any one team can beat the other. Ask top club Bournemouth, who lost at bottom club Derby last Sunday. Factor in the new manager boost and we could be in for a tough match.

    Barnsley 0 - Swans 2 (Ntcham 74’, Paterson 79’)
Hard earned win for the Swans at Barnsley tonight with two late goals clinching the three points. Subs Ntcham with the first goal and Manning with the assist turned the match in Swansea’s favour after a resolute Barnsley side were finally breached.
Paterson added a second, firing home with a left footed shot after a defence splitting pass from Piroe.
Onwards and upwards to 9th in the table and another clean sheet.

Well done Derby after their massive points deduction.
Beating Bournemouth last Saturday and drawing at Fulham tonight.

Sad to hear of the passing of ex-Swans manager and fans favourite Frank Burrows today.

I know our football is based on possession but with no end product it’s boring. First half we barely got the ball over the half-way line, passing back and sideways with a massive 81% possession.
Second half much of the same until the substitutions. The end result justified the means I suppose, but let’s not pretend it’s good to watch.
Obafemi was missing again from the squad after turning out for the U-23’s last Monday.
