Problem is Roma the less taxes are raised the more pressure it puts on our services such as the NHS and our roads and infrastructure .

I just don't know anymore Roma with this country to be honest .

I don't know what kind of society people want today .

Good services and a fully functioning NHS but an increase in taxes or just let everything fall in to privatisation and we pay for what we use which includes enhanced payments so these companies make a profit and attract shareholder investment and let charities take care of those who can't pay .

Seems to me both sides of this argument contain massive flaws .

Scrap VAT altogether for me Roma. Stick the equivalent amount on income tax. Make the system simpler.
Good point from Animal. I want to keep public services personally, but run them more efficiently and make them much more responsive rather than the turgid long drawn out processes that we get at the moment.

The vat on electricity has been reduced from 19% to 9% here in Cyprus, with a review in 3 months.
It is reduced further for vunerable to 5%.

We had control over this of course when the taxpayer owned British Gas and our electricity supply .

You don't need me to remind you who sold them off .
