    Sheffield United

Anyone else think this is a strange decision Heckingbottom been put in charge for next 41/2 years☹️
Even a diehard blade like Paddy Kenny questioning it he’s got a 25% win rate throughout his career perhaps they’re looking over at our business model in appointing ex players like Warne Barker Scott
Stuart McCall been made assistant and Jack Lester been promoted
Strange or inspired? Time will tell

It’s called “ doing a Warne” promoting internally a cheaper option

Judging from the press conference they seem to be in a bit of a financial pickle and Heckingbottom will be expected to develop the squad using players from the academy.
Doesn't really explain the 4.1/2 year contract though.

I think they’ve realised that a drop out of the Championship is more likely than a return to the Premiership

So they are consolidating on their set up and wage structure

Trying not to “ do a Derby”

What has it cost them in paying ex managers off? Could have bought a decent centre forward for that amount.

Yes but reduces the wage bill and other contributions, plus it puts the payment into a specific financial year. The league fair play rules are judged over a run of years ( three I think)

From the perspective of their league position at the time that was a bargain

Such is the absurdity of football in the top flight
