Yeah well that maybe factually correct nw6 coming straight from the club's unofficial in unbiased statistician but durhampie goes home and away to every game so I'm going with his analysis instead

If he says we've concede more from set pieces this season than we've scored well that's good enough for me and should be for everyone else on NCM#viva

Stats like that are made to make things look better than they actually are. I bet it doesnt include all of the goals we have conceded from crosses into the box. Not just this season, but last season aswell...Its those deficiancies, together with our inabillity to convert the scoring chances we create that will keep us in this crappy league..

I may be wrong but in this league I imagine most teams concede most their goals from set pieces and crosses from the style of most the opposition. When u look at our competition bar Chesterfield who to be fair have had a very good start to the season we’re about 3 or 4 goals down on goal difference on them and haven’t we still got to play the bottom 3?

Birchnall will tell you that we are making progress and our aim is to get back into the foorball league. In truth we are no better off than when we got relegated. We still get beat by the likes of Altrincham, Eastleigh and Woking and are told these are decent sides, Really! If thats progress then god help us if we do ever manage to get promoted..

    You win the bet!
But the bad news is the odds were 1/1000 on as the subject of the thread was a bit of a giveaway

Just to confirm the last thing I do is try to fluff the stats up to make them look better. I’ll try and focus on particular actions. In this case it was just set pieces. That’s because it has been a topic this season since we recruited a set piece ‘specialist’.

Whilst I can understand how some might feel we are nowhere near title winning material I would urge those people to try and consider the detail and reasoning of some of the stats.

The facts of the matter are this:
    1. Are we better at attacking and defending set pieces this season compared to last season? Well so far yes we are.
    2. Are we putting teams to the sword and scoring lots of goals this season, So far no we aren’t.
    3. Are we still susceptible to not winning games we really should. Yes, the games against Alty, Halifax, Woking and Eastleigh would tell you that.

So basically right now I’ve looked at set pieces. Maybe i’ll look at why numbers 2 & 3 continue to be an issue for us, and no doubt when I share it on here and other platforms there’ll be someone who has an issue with those stats as well.

I use the stats as key performance indicators to try and identify areas for improvement. I don’t always share my work with long winded explanations because I just assume most people have enough about them to decipher the data presented. I’m even fortunate enough to share some of these findings with relevant people within the club.

If something is not looking good when I analyse it I’ll call it out.

Anyone who sits near me at a game will also tell you I’m as animated and emotionally invested as the next fan because I leave my adding up book at home.

I know stats aren’t for everyone and I accept that, but I won’t use them to beat up the club with just to satisfy an unhappy few. If it’s a negative I’ll always try to present a positive slant on how that can be improved.

Anyway **** it, I’m going off at tangents, I feel the brandy bottle calling!

    Lol

Clearly he didn't read the title of the thread, read the previous pages or look at the handy illustrative charts provided by our resident stats man comparing like for like.

What he did do was go off on a tangent to cleverly find the negative in this positive thread. Now that's the sort of consistently we need from Notts.

I havent gone off on a tangent, just merely pointing out our frailties from set pieces, crosses into the box since being relegated.. Surely this is all relative...

Your first sentence is factually correct, but your second is up for debate. You could still be right, because until we get back into the Football League in terms of league position we are no better off than when we were relegated. We might be better off in other ways, but for me it counts for little until we become ‘The Oldest Football League Club in the World ‘ again.

ps don’t worry about being accused of finding negatives in a supposed ‘positive thread’. Only halfwits would see it as being just one way. Every thread should be open to opposing viewpoints, or this board would become a farce.

Oh since relegation well that's different. Yes defending set pieces has always been a weakness over that period of time without a doubt.

But this just emphasises the point, I don't believe under Ardley we were in credit when in came to goals conceded Vs goals scored from set pieces. Whereas as clearly shown, this season (which I'd suggest is the most important) we are clearly in credit. The stats say so however you try to twist it or suddenly go off at a tangent.

Even Stevie Wonder could see we are consistently dangerous from corners this season especially since the new specialist coach came in.

Which makes me think where's Kelton disappeared to? He should be all over this subject and happier than most!
