    Question on Prem LG 2 - U23's

Not familiar with the structure of the U-23 league. I do know some of the concepts such as some players above U-23 can play (usually rehab) and I've seen some of the videos but was unaware they have promotion/relegation structure.

question, is the a big upside or downside to being relegated or promoted in the U-23's? I understand you want a strong a side as possible playing the highest level competition but if it's a matter of bolstering the prem team how much do you lose if your U-23 teams relegated or promoted? Trying to figure it out.

    Thanks for any info

Hey Spaldy - think the Premier League 2 replaced the u21 competition and is a merger of u21s and u23s. You can have an over 23 GK and I think a further 3 over 23 players.

There are two divisions each with 14 clubs made up of PL and Champ clubs. Think you have to be an elite academy to get in.

There is promotion and relegation between the two divisions but don’t think you can get relegated from Div 2 but not sure how new teams get in - maybe it is to do with academy status.

The quality in Div 1 means you feel the force of the bigger clubs development so quality universally high.

We have struggled compared to last season now we are in Div 1 but with what seems to be a better squad than last year (albeit not sure many first team players have played down due to injuries and the game time of better players like Creaswell) may have been limited by them being being in the match day squads for the first team.

    PL 2 Spaldy ? https://www.premierleague.com/premie...ue-2-explained

Idea is to give young players at clubs a matchday experience closer to the one experienced by the first team & opportunities to be part of said first team via 'experiences' - So PL 2 is structured to give optimum meaningful game-time every week one way or another.

Reality apart - from the U18s promoted beyond their age & those in their final year of adolescence only a 'few players' who find themselves in the U23s of any PL top clubs can only really 'hope' of still making that vast final-step up to the first-team squad - Of course some players can command transfer fees whatever their future ability wise holds.

So whatever the FA choose to call it nowadays It's what it always was – the reserves, bulked up now & again with a few unwanted over-23 senior players, some obviously gaining required fitness outings.

How do the FA football Academies work ?

The EPPP academy system is based around an independent audit process, where clubs are assessed and categories and given a status of 1 to 4, with 1 being the highest status.

The Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) is a long-term strategy with the aim of developing more and better homegrown players starting from the age of 9 to age 23, hopefully represent their clubs & countries one day.

The main benefit's; playing top teams and Elite clubs cannot take our players for nominated fees.

It's a key to being a sustainable club, as can be seen particularly with Citeh, Pool, Arsen, gradually bringing in top of the top academy players
