    The P&O....Piss On.

P&O Ferries sacks 800 staff as part of 'necessary' cuts and replaces them with agency workers

P&O Ferries: 'We've been abandoned by the company', say sacked staff

Seafaring staff at P&O Ferries were told by video message that 800 of them were being sacked immediately as their ships returned to port. The decision has sparked angry protests from staff on ship and shore.

James, a steward on board the Spirit of France ferry at Dover, was on a day off when he heard the redundancy announcement.

He was texted half an hour before the three-minute video from P&O management.

"It feels like we have been abandoned by the company, only a few days ago they were ordering new uniforms and giving us all a pay rise and now, completely out the blue, they have sacked us," he said.

Mark Canet-Baldwin from Hull says he was hired a week ago to work as onboard services manager on a new ship sailing in British waters, but the agency couldn't tell him anything about the ship.

He was put up in a hotel in Glasgow and then driven at 05:30 GMT to an undisclosed location, which turned out to be the P&O dock at Cairnryan.
Their bus stopped to pick up a security detail of a dozen guards, "all in black, big handcuffs on the back of them", Mark says.
When they arrived, some agency staff knew the P&O workers as former colleagues and got in touch.

"People on board were just devastated," Mark says. "It was just horrible, we were appalled, there was just a general feeling of uneasiness on the bus and we felt we were like traitors to the cause or something."

One sacked P&O staff member had just taken out a mortgage, he says, and they had all been expecting to arrive home for two weeks of leave, not redundancy.
"I've got kids and I started thinking about them. In this day and age you've got to have morals, you've got to have ethics," Mark says.

British International Investment, (formerly CDC Group plc, Commonwealth Development Corporation, and Colonial Development Corporation)[2] will in 2022 be the development finance institution of the UK government. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is responsible for the organisation, and is the sole shareholder. It has an investment portfolio valued around US$5.3 billion (year end 2017)[5] and since 2011 is focused on the emerging markets of South Asia and Africa.[1]

In November 2021, the FCDO announced that it would rebrand the CDC as British International Investment (BII) in 2022 as part of a strategy to deepen economic, security and development ties globally, increasing its financing to 9 billion pounds by 2025. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in the announcement the change was to "grow economies across Asia, Africa and the Caribbean while drawing them closer towards free-market democracies

Would it be naïve to blame Brexit and the erosion of workers' rights no longer in the EU?

Phoney Outrage from our hapless, colluding government who give themselves a pay rise and the rest of us get a tax hike while 800 workers get the boot.

Don't blame me I voted for Corbyn.

Funny you should say that CiB, Jeremy Corbyn for the last 20 years said power needs to be returned to the workers and the only way that could possibly happen is with strong unions and some revised and new worker protective legislation. A new Socialist Party would be a great start.

The charlatanic Tories stuffed Chelsea Football Club without an ill-considered thought so how’s about they suspend the licences of P&O’s parent company Dubai based (not again!) DP World.

It has now unsurprisingly emerged that our hapless Tory Crony Party was made aware of the callous move the night before 800 Brits got the old heave-ho.

It is worth mentioning DP World have a £146m unpaid debt with the Merchant Navy Ratings pension fund, which is intended to provide P&O Ferries staff security in their retirement.

Yet they have just managed to spunk £147m sponsoring golf’s European tour in the latest round of business using sport to wash its dirty laundry.

Question: Where’s Boris when you need him?

Answer: He’s jetting around (you guessed) the Middle East trying to beg the Arabs to sell us their oil.

Can you possibly make this **** up?

The very same Arabs who beheaded 81 people in one day just this week, the very same people who tricked a journalist into their Turkish embassy then murdered him,put him through a mincer and flushed his remains down the toilet, the very same people we are arming and training and directing their pilots to bomb Yemen causing over 500.000 civilian casualties including around 80.000 children.

We dont have leaders, we have puppets, and any who run in a leadership race...are also Puppets. Why? because they know, that true Power owns and controls all the Essential services, The Banking System, Energy, Food production/distribution, Transport / Air freight/ Container ships, Pharmaceuticals, Medical equipment etc - or the important entities, Social networks, the Media networks, the online market Place, Search Engines...everything down to your shoelace. Governments/countries are nothing without them, they dont exist...and if they decide to pull the plug or break just one link of their chain, We feel it, so it them, and their Economic agenda who Govern us, their program, their schedule - Politicians are nothing but their mouthpiece propogandists to persuade and reassuure, to spin yarns and titilate, make News and look important holding a red case that contains nothing more important than a sandwich and an apple.

....what will it take, for the people to wake ?

    not this.

That is a really brilliant assessment Norder but the people could hold the power if they wanted to.That is why they need to divide and conquer so people will never side against them as one.
