    Apparently burnley are considering giving Andy Carroll a short-term deal.

    That gane against Burnley at the end of the season is going to be....interesting.

    I think the main pluses of this deal have been pointed out:

    1. It weakens a rival at a fee which likely wouldn't buy much of a guaranteed successful striker in the PL these days (obviously could be some overseas players at that price who might set the league on fire that nobody has heard of yet, but everyone's in the market for those, including us still)
    2. He does have experience at this end of the table, and has netted a few goals in that time - more than our currently fit alternatives.

    Another thing to consider is that once Wilson is fit, having a big lump of Wood as an option up front would allow us to play in an effective 4-4-2, opening up another tactical option that we've only really toyed with under Howe given the personnel available. He could bring Wilson into play, and there are few strikers with better movement than him in the league (I actually think only Cavani has better movement in and around the box than Wilson, since most of the top strikers now aren't really strikers in the traditional sense e.g. Salah, Son, Ronaldo, etc.)

    So, for me, a good (but obviously uninspiring) signing.

    Not overwhelmed. But no striker signing can be viewed as a negative right now.

    * Gayle is useless and Howe won't play him - Covid or not.
    * JoLo needs to be fitted properly into the midfield battling role without trying to make him work as a striker...which doesn't work.
    * ASM is no striker
    * Gives us someone who you can put crosses and corners into. Can't say we've had that for years.
    * Not afraid of the mucky task ahead. A grafter.
    * Most importantly: is here before the next game!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

    If we didn't sign a striker before the next game, might as well not have bothered turning up.
