    Stoke game called off again

Barnsley Football Club's upcoming fixture with the Potters has been postponed following a meeting with the EFL board this morning.

The Reds' planned Sky Bet Championship fixture with Stoke City here at Oakwell on Wednesday 12 January - previously rearranged after the original Boxing Day curtailment - has been postponed.

The Club has worked hard to ensure that it has been able to fulfil the fixture.

However, taking into account the number of injuries and positive COVID-19 cases within the squad, the Club does not have a sufficient number of players available in order to fulfil the fixture.

We apologise for the inconvenience of this postponement, and details regarding the rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated to our supporters in due course.

An EFL board member has just recently passed the game as okay to go ahead and making a remarkable u-turn. He stated ' We have taken everything into account, which also include recent results and performances, and we are of the mindset that it would make no difference if Barnsley FC were able to field 3 teams simultaneously on Wednesday evening, that they still would have no chance of securing any points against Stoke City FC' . He went onto say that even whilst SToke City FC had departed the pitch and boarding the team bus, it would be 'unlikely' that Barnsley FC would put together any 'meaningful, penetrating moves'

He added ' we see no point in rearranging this fixture yet again as all we are doing is delaying and denying Stoke City 3 crucial points in their push for a play off place, the sooner they get these added, the better as far as we are concerned'. They felt it was in the 'best interests' of Barnsley FC to have a 0-1 defeat chalked on their card as the likelihood is the scoreline 'would be greater'
