Thread: Five subs again

    Five subs again

    From the PA:

The Scottish Professional Football League has announced that cinch Premiership clubs will be allowed to use five substitutes in league matches for the remainder of the season.

Nine of 12 clubs voted for it.

I never liked that before and don't now either...ridiculous rule which only further helps the bigger clubs.

    We voted against.

Burrows: Altering the parameters of subs halfway through a season was something we didn't think was right, but also now having the possibility (albeit I accept very unlikely) of there being FOUR**** subs in a single match. even ten in regular circumstances, to us has the potential to diminish the game as a spectacle – almost like a pre-season scenario. That said, it's a democracy and totally accept the will of the majority of our fellow Premiership clubs, so will get on with it.

I don't have a huge problem, assuming that there are only three substitution "windows" allowed. Given the current scenario of players returning from Covid infections, I guess it is better to play a bit safe in certain circumstances. It might help the bigger clubs a bit, but all managers will still have to use it wisely.

I miss the drama that comes when an outfield player has to play in goal. Kirk at Tynecastle or (the reverse) Woods at Kilbowie spring to mind.
