The big problem is that when the window draws to a close

and we haven't got enough in and first choices who have been chased and negotiated with still turn us down or their club pulls out of the deal, what are we left with.

A few days to scrap around, take 3rd or 4th choices, or end up with only two or three signings and still with a squad that ought to have had at least five replaced and sold on.

Has anyone heard of any news of any current squad players being sold to make way for new additions because if there's a last-minute influx of new arrivals then there needs to be the same in numbers of the current dross moved out and in good time?

By the time we look to do any business in 2 weeks time with the typical end-of-window flurry, it will be too late. If they leave it until then, they will need to bring in maybe 5-6 MORE quality players that are:

    a) able to go on a run of WINS - a turn of form that cannot be achieved with the odd 3rd or 4th choice player.
    b) willing to drop into the Chimpo

Those two things are usually mutually exclusive so I can't see it happening. To get an unrecognisable sequence of results, our team will have to be unrecognisably different come the close of this window. Our last two results have made "uphill" into a vertical wall leaning slightly backwards.

The football side of things at this club have been left to decay more than the bits of SJP that are falling off the girders. The owners have underestimated the groundwork that they needed to lay before this window so wheeler-dealing now feels a day late and a dollar short.

Sure other teams screw around in the window with lies, gazumping and inflated prices but all of that should have been expected so deals should have been much more advanced before the window opened. Instead, the time is fast coming to start thinking about a FULL rebuild in a lower league.

Decent? He’s way better than that I’d say.

Rate him like you will, but signing injured players is a stupid idea, in this situation.

Not if he's a bargain. We still need to win games after February and signing him needn't stop others from being signed.

We need to be signing players with the quality and attributes of Gosens.

However, we need 2 x immediately operational CBs and another clinical striker more urgently than players that will only be ready in February. So as long as we are not losing sight of positions where we desperately need improvement, I am actually very welcoming of signing quality players, especially defenders.

The problem with just signing 1 x CB is that I reckon EH will still start Lascelles next to a shiny new player. We need 2 x CBs to take that decision pretty much out of his hands.
