    Scarlet Fever?

My 4 year old grandson has just caught it.

I’ve never had it, any of you lot ever experienced it?

Hi Mick, my Mom told me she had it when she was 5, I'm going back 95 years.
It was serious in those days she was kept in a isolation ward for 3 weeks, with no visitors apart from her Mom and Dad who could only look through the window.

Scarlett Fever used to be quite a common and serious illness as it could also lead to pneumonia. Like Soulman, my mum remembers her brother having it when he was young and the family not being able to visit him due to isolation rules. It spreads really easily and is still (I think) classed as a notifiable illness. For many years you hardly heard of it as antibiotics worked really well but for some reason the number of cases has risen lately. Looks nasty but should be treated readily enough. Anyhow, hope your grandson gets well soon

Thanks to those who offered a serious reply.

Thankfully the little chap seems fine as it appears it’s been caught very early.

    Cheers again.

I'm sure he will be okay Mick. It used to be a serious illness year's ago with a death rate of between 15-20%. But antibiotics have diminished the power of it and today it's only about 1%, and probably with those who have underlying causes.
It's still more powerful than Covid though.

    It is highly contagious though.
Any idea where he might have caught it?

I didn’t actually realise the severity of it, hope the little man is okay soon
