    Deja vu all over again

Strange feeling ahead of this one - very eager to be back but you wonder if this will prove a turning point for the season and not in a positive way...it feels very much like the Ross County evening game we lost in August 2020 when we played meh, got beat in a match we should never have lost and then never picked up again. Hope I'm wrong!

Alarmingly accurate so far :-( Half chances missed, criminal giveaway from Roberts deep into injury-time and an og.

Never known a team that plays so bad against 10 men every time we have to. First half we didn’t really look to be in any danger.

No, until we gifted them one you'd have said the first half was fine though not great. We score a brilliant equaliser, they go down to 10 and what happened then was pathetic...McGinley sold the jerseys for sure but it was coming from how we handed County the initiative with a man less. Given Hibs and Aberdeen were up against the OF and United threw in a shocker against St Mirren, it's a glorious chance missed to give us breathing space before the next run of seven league games has Hibs, Tynecastle, Celtic, Tannadice, Aberdeen, Ibrox in it, a spell which could end our top six hopes never mind any dreams of Europe.

Hopeless tonight; we never looked a threat, even when they went down to 10 men. It was another classic post-winter break no-show from Motherwell.

Ross County were not much better, but they benefitted from an OG on the stroke of halftime, McGinley being rubbish as he often can be, and by another of our players not knowing how to keep their arms by their sides when defending in the box.

I hope Alexander rips most of them a new hole because that level of performance and effort was appalling, and then I hope he tears himself a new one as well because his tactics, formation, and decision-making tonight were all wrong. He stormed straight back to the dressing room at the end, so let's hope he launches some rockets.

We need to stop signing midfield players if we're going to stick with a stagnant middle 3. Instead, we need to sign a replacement for Watt because the five who played tonight are not going to match his goals and effort. And we need to sign a new RB and LB because the current crop is mince.

Anyway, I still think we'll beat Morton on Saturday and likely finish in the top 6.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander is not a happy man.

"We threw the game away," he tells BBC Sportsound. "We were completely dominant right up to half-time. We had good opportunities to score and started the second half in same fashion.

"The red card for them softened us up mentally and we threw the game away. We played worse when they went down to 10 men and allowed them to play better. That's what happens when you take it easy.

"When we take it easy, we're crap. Simple as. We should've had three points tonight. We have to make up for that."

    No sugar coating at least...

The way he stormed off the pitch after the final whistle spoke of his mood. It will be an uncomfortable homeward journey.

If we had a captain who was actual captain material, we wouldn't have rolled over and showed them our belly when they went to 10 men. Alexander needs to sort this out.
