A win is a win. The main thing is we are through. But that was another poor performance. Never mind outlining how poor we are at passing and how bad our midfield is. WTF has happened to our defence. Looked really vulnerable again at the back. Ash Taylor shld have had a hat trick from corners alone. Mcmann is a Bombay scare both defensively and going forward and Edwards and mulgrew look unsure at time. Which maybe down to the fact that there is no one in the middle of the park that is capable of taking any ball played out from the back and doing something with it.

Agree, many teams have struggled away to Kilmarnock so a win is a win. Despite not being there because of a "slight cold" I will give a wee summing up on behalf of my son: Benji, distribution ****e. Mcmann poor. Edwards and Mulgrew bang average. Levitt showed his class, Freeman was pretty decent, Sporle was Sporle, Butcher was Butcher, Clarke was quiet, Mcnulty did alot of running and got a goal and Watt showed that he has that bit of class..........Niskanen held the ball up when he came on and Pawlett showed a bit of nous (winning fee kicks) and Appere was OK. Ross County on Wednesday is the big one. We need to have a positive line up and get at them from the start.

Not great to watch but we're through. Pawlett coming on and driving down the middle made us more dangerous and we looked a much better team when he was introduced. Another tough away tie in the next round and like yesterday the team will be backed by a big away support. Looking forward to it.

This is a problem we've had for a long time now - guys coming off the bench and performing, earning themselves a start and doing fcuk all with it. Pawlett yesterday, Clark last week, Glass a few weeks ago, Appere every time, Harkes has done it, Butcher has done it. It's so annoying. Why can't they do it when asked to from the start? Do they not try hard enough, taking their starting place in the team for granted? Are they only effective when the opponents are tired? We don't seem to have players who can be effective, consistently, over 90mins. It's really frustrating.

I was fairly confident we would come back after break much improved with a clean bill of health, but few things worry me. The defence/team is no longer keeping clean sheets, it’s not been terrible but that slight drop in standards is all that is needed to turn a winning run to a losing run when you don’t score goals, margin of error is almost nonexistent.

We also seemed to have a fairly settled line up and game plan, since certain players have dipped in form there seems to be a bit of a ripping up of the plan, going back to butcher in midfield, playing Clark in midfield/off the strikers which previously hasn’t yielded results. I don’t have clue how we will line up v county. I’m aware guys like Fuchs and wide guys like pawlett/niskanen standards have slipped, perhaps therein lies the problem, our squad isn’t great outside the early season established eleven, Not enough players capable of stepping up.

And then there is the long term problems that haven’t been fully addressed - pace , physicality up front and ball carriers in the team that limits our playing options as we struggle to be direct at times. St Mirren had pace which meant they could do it 3-4 passes what we were trying to do in 15+ passes playing out the back. County have wide guys and pace down the flanks also as well as the lump White up top if they need to launch it.

The above post sums this United team up especially the midfielders and strikers,i feared the worst yesterday but what a goal from Levitt to win it.

Especially after the way we started what with going one up and stretching them all over the place at the back, for it to end up the way it did was disappointing. BUT, you know what I’ll give them a bit of credit. We used a bit of luck what with Taylor’s series of missed chances from corners, but were we not due that after some of the things that have gone against us in recent weeks between incompetent refs, Covid, injuries, lockdown at home to Hibs etc etc etc?

Let’s give them credit. That was always going to be a tough tie on plastic and with Killie still having a bit of a Delboy new manager bounce. But instead, they dug in, rolled the sleeves up, stood up to the challenge and found a way to win.

This could end up being a bit of a turning point for us hopefully as the consequences all round for defeat would have been difficult. So basically well done to the team - they got themselves through and into an extremely winnable next round.

P.S. FAO the serial relegation dodging plastic cheats - We’ll Meet Again and hope you’re enjoying life in the Championship. It’s schit isn’t it???

Indeed mate. I'm surprised so little has been said about the goal. Sublime stuff from Levitt The drag away from the defender and the composed finish, all whilst he was suffering cramp. Different class. Hopefully Levitt gets back to his best very soon. He can't be far from it now with 2 games under his belt.

As a midfield or attacking player by the nature of the contest games are more often than not stretched when you come on and the pace has gone down a notch giving you a bit more space. Hence so many of our players look better when they come on, but have less impact when starting.

Levitt has been a big miss for chunks of the season. I think he is a natural deep playmaker, but at our level, we can benefit more from him being higher up the pitch. Fuchs could be performing that linking up the defence and midfield, releasing levitt higher up the pitch, if his form hadn’t dropped off so badly.

spot on. At the start of the game there is less space and less time so if you lack technique and composure it shows up more. Appere being a case in point.
