absolutely spot on - days of two out and out wingers gone. Glass in any part of the midfield right - he often drfits inside too and causes trouble. Agree on Butch too.

4312.....Give Glass a floating/no.10 role to link midfield and attack, because by fcuk, we weren't doing that last night.

Mulgrew strides forward - blind cut back to Edwards - Edwards short ball to Levitt - Levitt looks around - sideway pass to Neilson - Neilson strides forward and plays it back to Edwards - aaaaaaaaand repeat x 90. 🥱🥱🥱

Always going to be difficult to break teams down when we gift them momentum and a lead to hold on to. Simply difficult to find a forward pass sometimes. Anyway, my suggestion for Saturday is:
    GK(don't care who)
    Edwards Mulgrew McMann
    Freeman Butcher Levitt Sporle
    Clark Glass
    Watt

Different prospect when we get the full backs high. Started the season doing it but lacking confidence now to do it with the 4-3-3 shape. Last 25 minutes last night was back to that shape. Only real alternative is to go with 3 at the back so that we can still have enough in the centre of the pitch to try to control the game. Clark made a difference last night when he came on. Realise that doesn't suit many's narrative but it is the truth and think he is important at linking play and potentially could help get the most out of Watt.

Full backs can push on in 4-3-3, you just have one midfielder sitting back to make a back 3 when they push forward (Butcher?) for cover.

Clark played in his best position last night when he came on which was playing off a striker. If he is going to be playing then that is where he must play (personally would prefer to play Glass there myself).

I think the lack of wingers, or decent wingers (hi Pete/Ilmari, talking about you), means we should rely on the full backs for width.

EDIT - took our the team shape as it didn't format correctly

Agree with all of this. The fullbacks just aren't pushing on enough in our 4-3-3 just now. We are far too deep with Mulgrew and Edwards as scared of pace in behind. Levitt dropping in between the centre halves to get the ball, should be the trigger for fullbacks pushing high. Confidence killing that and that's why altering shape is needed for us to achieve width. Currently our front three try to do it but leaves them too far away from striker.
Agree about Clark's position. Niskanen could for me play as a wing back/wide midfielder but is lost in a front 3 as we never get the ball close to him and dont think he understands the role. Pawlett should only play central, but wouldn't be my choice as a number 10 just now.

3-5-2/3-4-3 is probably the best way for us to go at the moment, I wonder if we will see a change in system if another centre half is brought in?

i actually really like the look of that Do83, Freeman and Sporle bombing forward, Butcher with some dig with Levitt to spread the ball about and attacking with Clark (who did look way better last night playing there) Glass and Watt
