It’s hardly the National Leagues fault. Games in the Premiership get called off all the time and I can guarantee that every club in that league could put out 14 players. Now that’s a joke league.

It is what it is. Disappointed that we won’t be playing, but at least it’s been done in good time. Kings Lynn and Dover take note.

Shouldn't they specify how many are injured and how many have covid.!..just so we can be sure it's off because of covid or just because they have injuries.
Can you call a game off if your team is decimated by Injuries or do you have to fulfill the fixture by playing youth teamers if required?

Or perhaps they have a problem with Covid?

Suppose they played the game and brought Covid into the club.

    Correct decision imo.

It's long been the case that you can call a game off if you have enough players unavailable. The 1980 Boxing Day clash with Cambridge for example was called off because the Cambridge squad had been hit by flu. Chester on New Years Day 1987 was called off due to them having a virus.

Whether or not the FL make a distinction between players being unwell and being injured, I don't know, but it wouldn't seem very fair if they did. How would they verify it? It's probably been a case of assuming all clubs act in good faith until recently, but it is a matter that is now being discussed and re-evaluated amid suspicion that clubs are gaming the rules.

Can't really see what Barnet would have to gain. Seems strange that some Prem clubs say they only have 13 or 14 players available. They must have a lot of players out because for some cup games they play a totally different team and subs.

Squad numbers now are often in the 50s and beyond.

Doesn't matter now, the league sanctioned it so we have to live with it. Deeply frustrating because I'm sure we were all confident of three points tonight and the last thing we need is a fixture pile-up and several months of Sat-Tue-Sats. Very hard for any team to keep winning game after game without the same recovery time as your opponents.

The ridiculous thing is that we've played a grand total of three league games since November 27. Halifax will have played seven in the meantime, assuming their game goes ahead tomorrow, and Altrincham eight.

And then, in stark contrast, we're due to play eight league games between Feb 15 and Mar 12, including games away at Chesterfield, Stockport and Solihull.

If we're to keep this run going as the fixtures pile up and get out of this accursed division, we're going to need everyone in the squad to step up - which means the likes of Sam, Mitchell, Francis, Parsons, Nemone, JOB, DKE, etc.

Tend to believe Barnet on this one tbh, one of those things.

We could do with getting this one rearranged reasonably swiftly I reckon. Between the Grimsby game and the Halifax cup game would probably be ideal, on the basis we can heavily rotate for the latter.

Actually, on second thoughts, we’re probably better to go nearer the end of the season. Nothing currently scheduled midweek for the last seven/eight weeks of the season currently. Stockport (A) is going to have to go in there somewhere because even if we go out of the Trophy, they got a home draw against a team three leagues below so will presumably win.

    IB on tonight's postponement...

Ian Burchnall insists he and the squad won’t let the frustration of another postponed fixture affect their focus on continuing our fine run of form.

We were hoping to honour Colin Slater MBE by making it seven straight wins when we welcomed Barnet to Meadow Lane this evening but the match was postponed due to Covid cases in the visitors’ camp.

But, despite being disappointed, the boss is keeping a level head.

“It’s completely out of our control. The only thing we can do is react in a positive way,” said Burchnall.

“It’s such a shame because it was going to be a great occasion for Colin. A lot of people were coming and we wanted to put on a really good show, but sadly we won’t be able to.

“We have 20 fit players to choose from – only Jim O’Brien is unavailable to play at the moment – and we want to capitalise on that, but we’ll have to wait patiently for Tuesday now.

“Our focus immediately switches to Wealdstone and, as frustrating as it is for everyone, we’ve just got to make the best of the extra time we have to prepare for that game.

“We’ll play an in-house match at Meadow Lane this afternoon – 11 v 11, three 20-minute matches. That will leave us scope to train hard again on Saturday and give the lads Sunday off.”

Good to hear that it will be a hard training session tomorrow with Tuesday night in mind. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not sure why it would be unfair.?
If you have got covid you have to report it along with the test kit..it would be very easy to define what is Injury and what is covid...
If they have what they feel are their best players missing then crying covid seems to be an easy way of getting games cancelled.Maybe I just have a suspicious mind !
