Agree.
After the debacle of today, I just cannot understand why we haven't brought a striker in of any substance. Even an average championship one would surely put away enough from the chances we create to bag us an odd win or two. Bamford has been out all season, with, it seems no return on the horizon, we have only young geldhart as any option, please don't anyone suggest Roberts or rodrigo as an option because they aren't, if another striker came then its up to Bamford to fight for his place, like every other team does, please Leeds buy a bloody striker before it's to late.
Agree.
More than agree, but as per normal, we will sign " some striker " about 11.00pm, just before window closes, and then suprise, suprise, he is way off match fitness, or carrying some kind of injury.
Here are three comments from Twitter, all very recent, all genuine, all entirely so predictable.
1.“As things stand, our beloved club is not rich enough to succeed in the modern game.”
2.“It’s the owners’ fault. You could stick any manager in and we would still be getting the same issues time and time again: lack of investment.”
3.“This is such basic economics: invest in immediate improvement and there is a very clear path to recover those costs and much more.”
Well - To those who say, ‘go and find a buyer' then I'll say unless owners are actively looking to sell the club then nobody will be appearing quickly in January for starters.
The point is a simple - having a rich owner prepared to invest is NO guarantee of success as pretty much every club in the top four divisions is owned by one or more wealthy individuals & they can’t all be successful. Fact is season after season most of them gonna fail.
Journalist Nick Miller of the Athletic states this is because money doesn’t necessarily make one team considerably stronger than its rivals. “With Man City and Chelsea, it’s not that they can buy players that clubs like Liverpool cannot, but that they can afford to make mistakes that clubs like Liverpool cannot''
Oh' regarding those damn Geordies & takeover shennanigans - the value of the deal to the Saudis was made evident when leaked communications reported by the Daily Mail suggested that MBS, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, sent messages to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, warning him that relations would be strained unless the Newcastle deal was reversed - the deal actually went through surprisingly quickly.
A Professor Murray of International Relations further argues, Britain sold $2.7 billion in arms to the Saudi government, some of which would have likely gone towards waging the war in Yemen and used today.
So, Britain’s arms exports to Saudi Arabia are far more important to the UK government than a sports club,” states Murray. When placed against this backdrop, the acquisition of a football team for a small sum of money is tiny he concludes.
Bloody hell, all I want is a day out with my mates on the terraces, bit of banter & maybe a good humoured argument with another team's nonce fan & if we lose a totally pis**D off return journey home before realising its Villa or whoever next up and breeeeathe.
Funny old game supporting Leeds Utd & some funny folks amongst football ranks - but we coming back for more !
If a bang average striker gave us 12 goals I don't think anyone would complain, surely the powers that be can see investing in this is better than being back in the god forsaken championship.
Wtf have arms sales to anyone got anything to do with English football in general and LUFC in particular? Is it surprising that such sales are of greater importance to any British government, of any "colour", than said footballing organisations?
Saudi arms deals and the interest of the ruling family in English football clubs are unlikely to have much to do with each other. One is a perceived existentialist requirement, the other is a rich man's plaything, neither will affect LUFC.
And to address the tw4tter comments, not sure anyone wants the current owner to sell, just a desire to see the club invest wisely in new players instead of the dross we are usually dealt (Raphina excluded of course!), but that depends on someone who drives recruitment who knows what they are doing, unfortunately.
My confidence in MB is shattered.
If we did buy a striker he’d play him on the wing or midfield, after 3 weeks of training acclimatising.
This taking of James instead of Rodrigo and playing Roberts instead of Gelhard,is beyond a joke.
Agree Billy, love bielsa but sometimes he leaves me scratching my head
Dan james was better than 30M Chris Wood though!
We should have bought a ST and CAM/CM at the start of the window but the wins against Burnley and Spam probably reduced the need in the eyes of the club and Bielsa doesn’t seem to make demands in that way.
