The other is a gold-coloured Omega which was a long-service gift to my Uncle from Heinz in 1967.

I did exactly the opposite to you Griff, when I retired I bought a run of the mill watch which I liked the look of and started to wear it,in my last job you had to be naked below the elbow so I never bothered with a watch and as i never take my phone with me if I go out It came in handy to keep track of time

When you said that the Omega was a long service gift from Heinz I honestly thought that you meant the singer from the 60's but I suppose that it's the food company that you meant 😂

Spend some money on cleaning the watches up even if you think that it's not worth the money then you can pass them onto your kid(s),something like that could become a family heirloom just like cayambes and it's something nice to remember you by

Now me and my sister are complete opposites, honestly we are like chalk n cheese but obviously we had exactly the same upbringing, she's very posh despite her upbringing, she's got a lovely house and only shops in Sainsbury's or M+S,her kids get extra education after school and he won't touch a cheap brand no matter how good the reviews are, she's always done regular exercise and is in a running club, she's got stacks of friends and loves socialising...then there's me, I'm as common as s.hit, proper council, factory fodder and if something is on offer then I'm in,my favourite food is a takeaway and booze,I very rarely mix with people and I've one friend (possibly) ...

Do you think that the milkman was collecting more than the milk money back in the 60's?
I agree that siblings can be different. I always looked up to my brother - sadly he looked down on me (or maybe it was my imagination). Whatever, in the last 2 years our relationship has become ever closer for which I am very grateful. I am sure you have many friends.

I am an only child which is why in some ways I’m glad we were blessed with 2 kids.. ideally 6 years apart on reflection was not a good idea but they have always been close & big sister tells him off now 😀

Back on the watch thread.. working in Automotive supply for many years, I had the same rules as Chalky.. no jewellery, watches, belt etc as was in & out of Jaguar Halewood and it was banned in case you scratched paintwork.. when I started a new job the MD had a really nice watch so I treated myself to one (not exactly the same), Mrs BDB was about 8 months pregnant with our son & said to me as we were supposed to be getting stuff for the nursery from the Trafford Centre & I was looking in every Jewellers window.. she said if you think you can afford a watch like that with a baby on the way, just buy one.. 🤔

On the basis it’s easier to seek forgiveness than permission I did the next day 😀

Chalky, you are well liked by a lot of people & missed on our forum, that I do know as not seen f00k off for months

I certainly hope not cayambe as it wasn't a statement of complaint,it's the way that I like it,I've meet lots of people along the way who I've liked who I haven't kept in contact with and that's good enough for me,long time friendships rarely last anyway

Few people are real friends - I have two, but plenty of acquaintances

You are absolutely right cayambe,I would say that only two people can become real friends, somebody that you known for years and know you better than you know yourself and won't let you down when they are needed and vice versa, like you I've met loads of nice people along the way but are acquaintances rather than friends

Life is just a series of interacting stories imo and something to reflex on in old age
