    Pro's' & Con's - Playing them to young ?

97% of former elite academy players now aged 21 to 26 years old failed to make a single Premier League appearance, official statistics revealed & 70% are not even handed a contract by any PL or English league club.

Asked what improvements had been made to better support released academy players, a Football Association spokesperson said: “The professional leagues and their clubs are primarily responsible for the development and wellbeing of players who are active in the elite academy system, and bespoke regulations are employed throughout.

Mmm, 'Bespoke regulations are employed' - Of the 4,109 former academy footballers only one in 10 has gone on to make more than 20 league appearances in the top four tiers of English football.

Makes Leeds Utd a stand out organisation in the way youth is bought through & the way all coaching staff observe rules of 'Bespoke regulations' regarding first team bedding in procedure - the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) was launched to professionalise the academy system and set out to put players “at the centre of the process” not clubs, agents or supporters whims.

The Report analysis - was of players born from 1 September 1995 to 31 August 2000 includes 4,109 players who were registered at Category One academies. Category One status is awarded to the top-tier academies that represent almost the entirety of the Premier League — including the Big Six of Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United — and several clubs in the Championship.

    Very interesting topic.

I think that there is also the consideration of the amount of capital a club has. If we broke down some of these stats we'd likely find that some clubs break in players faster/more often than others.

I guess you'd also have to consider how the big clubs "hoard young players" which also delays the ability of some of the young players to break into a lineup. I think that several years back the FA tried to make it that a certain percentage of players came from the UK? Not sure if that ever happened?

I don't see a problem with bringing a youngster on for 20mins instead of, or in place off, someone who is shyte.
Maybe not what the thread is about, but anyway.....

The u23 train a lot with the first team and all their output date is shared across the whole group.

just checking them in without planning probably wouldnt be good for a lot of them depending on temperament and
personality. The physicality of the PL is a big step up too so they probably need more recovery time. Pretty happy with how MB manages the younger players.

Nothing at all wrong with that Billy.

MB uses it well collectively within the squad, just that some folks don't understand why youth players minutes are limited to 45mins or 60mins cameo stints.
Hence my drawing of attention of 'bespoke regulation process' guidelines to being followed which Brian Deane was keen to emphasise recently on a WhatsApp yap session after he'd read some public comments regarding younger players not played regularly at Leeds.
