He is going to get away with it all

He set the terms of the Sue Gray enquiry to exclude him and all the Cabinet. But no doubt he will use the report in order to state that he is innocent.

As for the Metropolitan Police enquiry the conclusion of that is obvious. The 'powers that be' of the Metropolitan Police will not want to effectively dismiss a Prime Minister. Even if they present damning evidence to the CPS the CPS will not want to bring about a prosecution and effectively dismiss a Prime Minister.

He has got away with it all and he has a tame Cabinet.

Completely outside the legal process, this goverment's anti-Covid policies have been disastrous. The UK's economy has been 5th / 6th most powerful in the world for at least a quarter of a century, regardless of being in / out of the EU and regardless of the governing party. Yet there are 194 of 225 countries that have had fewer deaths per million of population. This is an utterly shameful performance, rendering this government unfit to be in office. But of course this government, just like the Holdings board, is totally immune to shame. "Rollout of vaccines blah blah blah", fuck off. Come on Labour Party, all you need to do is quote the truth. That would be devastating to these twats.

This morning’s news certainly seems to support your headline:

So we’ll see a watered down export saying next to nothing, leading to a Met investigation which will take months and give enough wiggle-room for those in power to get away with it. The PM has been acting almost as though he knew that this was going to happen. I wonder how?

There is little doubt that he will get away with it. That was his sole aim, to push the process back and obfuscate, to avoid having to face a Conservative Parliamentary Party vote of confidence. Of course all Tory MPs know of his total guilt but their calculation is 'if he gets away with it we will not send those Letters'. They want whatever is likely to keep them in place as MPs after the next General Election. So when he gets away with it they will consider that the electorate regards him as innocent and once again he becomes a vote winner at the next General Election. Ethics play no part in this.

According to the experienced political commentators the Conservatives will get flayed at the local authority elections om 5th May. There will much to 'vote against'. But for him the most important thing is that he gets to 5th May. The Tories will get flayed, partly by the electorate being extremely frustrated by the current manipulation of matters but there will also be several other factors. Once again the Tory MPs will be twitchy and there will be a plan to again pacify them such that he survives their reaction to the local election results.

Relying on Tory MPs to do the honourable thing is naive. I believe that the Prime Minister is totally guilty and the Tory MPs are spineless. But maybe they have made the correct calculations, in their terms. If the current Prime Minister can blague his way forward to the next General Election he may be able to pull off his greatest blague and win it. After all, the electorate is currently absolutely incensed but by the time of the next General Election a sufficient amount of this stuff will be sufficiently in the past such that the electorate has several new immediately important factors in mind.

We must not be so naive as to think that justice will prevail.

However long he hangs on this will not go away and enough of the public will remember.

His presence as leader will do long lasting damage to the reputation of the Conservative party and the Country.

Let's hope so, because that would be justice. The Labour Party 'soft pedalling' on this could be a big mistake or be the correct strategy with an unpopular Prime Minister in charge. If he is damaging the Conservative's chances he will be replaced by means of a Conservative Parliamentary Party vote of confidence. If he is still Prime Minister at the time of the next General Electionn he will probably win it for them. If the party has any doubts about him he will be replaced. There is no way that a very unpopular Prime Minister will be in place at the time of the next General Election.

Here’s how it’ll go. The Gray report will turn up in a truncated form so as not to affect the police investigations. It will say next to nowt which will upset everyone except those at number 10.

The police investigation will proceed slowly, citing the importance of Government business which must be allowed to take precedence. Evidence taken will be assessed against the usual principle; is it sufficient to issue fixed penalty notices or to instigate court proceedings where the test will be “beyond reasonable doubt”. They will decide that it’s not worth bothering CPS and the passage of time rules out issuing notices.

This will be announced in due course, probably during the Summer recess. There will be raised eyebrows but little else apart from the Labour Party demanding that Parliament be recalled, which will be declined. The full Gray report will come out, having been hastily rewritten, and it will exonerate all politicians but lead to a clear out of Civil Servants and advisers from the back-offices.

    You heard it here first.

Johnson is a serial liar and therefore is the gift that keeps on giving.

Even if he survives this "investigation", in due course he will be caught out by yet another lie.

With Cressida Dick being accountable to the Home Secretary (Priti Patel) the chances of Johnson being charged with any offence must be highly unlikely (unless Dick is looking for early retirement in the very near future).

However the very nature of the man dictates that he will continue to stumble from crisis to crisis.

He is a liablility and it is hard to envisage he will not be removed from office by his own party prior to the next election.

If not it will be left to the British public to do the honourable thing when they vote.
