    A forward arrives!

Joe Efford has signed for Motherwell.

The American forward moves from Belgian side Waasland-Beveren for an undisclosed fee.

Accept early to dismiss but do not share M’well website optimism his goal scoring
His scoring form in 2018/19, netting 11 in 27 league matches, got his side promoted, where he then netted 11 in 19
His more recent form (Wiki)informs a different statistic 2020/21 with Waasland-Beveren netted 4 in 43 matches

The Belgians seemed to use him out wide more than through the middle and his goals in Greece were at pub level. He may or may not be a decent player for us but I'd be utterly amazed if he's a regular scorer in Scotland.

Another winger who “can play anywhere across the front three” and isn’t known for scoring goals.

Why can we not just sign players who’s natural position is striker and can play through the middle? I appreciate it’s difficult when we’re restricted by budgets and the January window is never easy to bring players in, but ffs why do we keep making the same signing over and over again??

    It depends...

If we've decided that Amaluzor is a write-off and if we want to keep 4-3-3 as our main formation, another body who is a natural left-footer isn't quite as bad as we were peak Robinson.

What's interesting is we don't seem - yet at least - willing to play Tierney as part of a central three behind KVV and two wingers. In the limited time we've put him on we've switched to a 4-4-2 diamond, which is in itself not terrible in an attacking sense (ignoring our inadequate full backs for a second). But should that be the new plan another wide player does seem redundant.

Agree we need another number nine to cover/pressure Van Veen regardless.
