From memory it was the first round of the FA Cup.
A replay after we drew 1-1 at Glanford Park.
We won 7-6 on penalties.

Still a first though.

Ian didn't play for us till around 93 season.

Ian played for Scun_thorpe in that 91 FA Cup replay.
Billy Mercer saved his penalty.
We missed a couple Nicky Law snr and Don Page.

Ally Pickering scored the winning penalty at the Railway End.
October or November 1991, FA Cup First Round.
18 penalties taken in that game.

Rotherham v S****horpe is often referred to as the first penalty shoot out in the FA Cup. However in the early 70s for a while, the losing semi-finalists used to playoff for 3rd/4th place. In 1972, after the game ended 0-0 Birmingham beat Stoke 4-3 on penalties so essentially that was the first one in the FA Cup.
