My mums popular sayings were….

“I’ll stand drop of York”…never got that at all

“I”ll go to foot of our stairs”…I guess that was to avoid swearing

“Gone there and back to see how far it is”….that used annoy hell out of me..until I started to follow millers..🤣..

And if she was eating sweets and I used to ask what she was eating she would say “shim shams”….I spent ages looking in gt news for something that didn’t exsist…..

On food…

Bread and pullet..I assume pull it….and sh1t with sugar on….

And my tough dad used wade in with…. “knuckle sandwich”…

I thought it was a well-known saying.

In Cheshire they sometimes said; "two jumps at pantry door and a bite at the latch".

In Lancashire; "two knocks on't pantry door and a lick of the buttery latch".

When I was very little my great-granny would tell me she was going to give me brimstone and treacle. I've no idea what it really was, home-made yellow stuff in a jam jar and it was lovely. My Granny used to threaten me with bread and dripping - I loved it. And she used to let me go in the pantry and cut myself a piece of her apple pie. Fond memories.
