Without sitting in on the meetings, nobody can say what difference - if any - this will make. I was under the strong impression that the Trews - after Rodwell left and it was just the two of them - added a third "board member" nobody had previously heard of just for window dressing purposes in an attempt to quell the observation that AT was, by then, making virtually all decisions unchallenged.

Not saying this is the case here. On the face of it, this might imply that the owners are more open to ideas and suggestions from somebody with genuine skills and experience, recognising that their own plan and thinking is to some degree flawed. The timing is odd though. You'd expect this sort of announcement in the close season or at a low ebb mid-season.

Maybe a club was trying to poach him, told the club he was leaving, the Owners came back with this offer?

That sounds very plausible, or something in that ball park - that he was becoming a bit frustrated with certain aspects of the job and wanted more say/responsibility. Could be that he has proved himself to be very capable and the owners have recognised that and rewarded him for his services so far.

Leadership is important but it's also important to have a dialogue with people in a position to challenge and test your view. It can't be ideal having only 2 or 3 people on the board if two of those 3 are related - which we had under the Trews. So this addition/promotion is probably a positive, but of course, where Notts go from here league position wise will be the judge of that, fairly or otherwise.

My assessment would be something close to this. Clearly we don’t know the terms of the appointment and whether there is any immediate or long term financial incentive attached, but I think this move is almost certainly to ensure his longevity at the club.
