    Guess I'm the only one...

Who was delighted the season is over.

I've heard on all the podcasts and Newcastle United YouTube Channels people saying 'I'm so disappointed that the season is over!'

    Why?

In August we began with miserable clueless performances where players didn't even know where they were playing and were completely unfit. The writing was on the wall.

Takeover goes through, Howe comes in, the team gets fit mid-season, Jan window - signings, up turn in performances and results.

However, this season was about getting over the line and getting to the summer.

This squad of players are not Eddie's men.

We aren't a really good team, we have some good professionals and a few gems. This is not good enough and most of the football we've played in the 2nd half of the season has been pragmatic, hardly inspiring.

I wouldn't want to watch many more matches against the likes of Spurs. We showed our limitations against a team that pre-Ashley we used to walk all over.

Eddie Howe want's to play many different tactical styles and have the ability to alter the shape and formation of the team 'in-game'.

For the most part this group can not do that.

This summer's transfer window is of far more interest to me than potentially watching another 5-10 games with the current crop of players.

Now I'm happy the season is starting early (1st August) due to the WC2022 here in Qatar, so pre-season will kick off around 3rd week of June which is only a month away.

That is far far more exciting for me rather.

How do you guys feel about it?

I think people are saying they don't want the season to end because we are something like the 4th best team in the league results wise since EH arrived. I agree though, the damage was already done by Bruce and the only target was survival this season.
We need a good window and good preseason because the expectations will be different now. Of course I’m delighted we avoided relegation but I can’t stop thinking about the recent Dippers and City games. We were outclassed and it showed how far behind we are.
It’ll take a bit of time to get where we want to be and IMO 8th is a good target for us next season.

Yes, I agree with your thinking on this, and the summer is gonna be very interesting and exciting. I expect us to sign some of the names being bandied about, BUT, don’t I am realistic, and cont expect us to go overboard, and I hope we don’t, I prefer us to do it gradually, and carefully, maybe over 4 windows, to get somewhere near to our target. I hope it doesn’t take tooooo long though as I’m 73 in June!

I think you've generally captured the mood well Raga but from Christmas, bar City I enjoyed every game. It was surreal, a tale of 2 halves but yes, I always had an eye on end of season knowing we had glaring gaps but my God it was great to see us compete and players choosing the right attitude also increasing their values.

I give them all credit and won't take anything away, it would have been easy to hide or thrown the toys out with no Wilson or Trippier but performed - on the form they showed they were top 4 if EH began in August.
