    D - Day for Smudge

So today we learn if Michael Smith stays or leaves.

We might also see if Micheal Ihiekwe is off to Derby. Think he’ll hang on another week or so to see what’s on offer from other clubs. Suppose he’d like move to Wigan to be nearer Liverpool as suggested on here.

June 10th is pivotal for us and who comes in for any of our younger players, Chio, Wiles, Rathbone, Barlaser, they could all have decent bids put in on them. Now that’s a worry in itself 😔

Wherever Smiffy ends up he’s been one hell of a Fantastic loyal player to us. Last season when his mate Crooks went to pastures new at Boro and no one came in for him, his head never dropped and he carried on like a true professional should. Thanks for all the great memories Michael and whatever you decide, good luck with everything for you and your family!

Couldnt get a game at Bury and everyone (including myself) questioned if Warney had lost his marbles when he signed him.
Just goes to show what we know. We have opinions but they aren't really educated ones.
It also shows there are horses for courses and going as the saying goes.
If he does leave then let's trust the club to find another Smudge.

Loads of gems out there it's just spotting one that's the hard bit. Classic was Ian Wright playing Non leagueSunday Football and another non league Manager saw him and tipped off Palace......the rest is history.

From being a t.eenager, until the age of 21, Wright played for Bermondsey-based amateur Sunday league club Ten-em-Bee (a club his sons Brett and Shaun also later played for). In 1985 Wright was signed by semi-professional Greenwich Borough and got paid £30 a week.

After just six or seven matches, he was spotted by a Crystal Palace scout after a tip-off from Dulwich Hamlet manager Billy Smith and was invited for a trial at Selhurst Park. Having impressed then-manager Steve Coppell, he signed a professional contract for Crystal Palace in August 1985, just three months short of his 22nd birthday, the agreed fee being a set of weightlifting equipment.

It all makes you wonder how many "undiscovered gems" remain undiscovered... and there will be a lot. Thing is, we'll never know. It's all about being in the right place at the right time, plus there's just not enough room for every single one to turn into a superstar. For all we know, there may well be a gem that would would have been better than Ian Wright but remained undiscovered.

Just like the rest of life really. Some folk bang on about fate or "thank God". Nowt to do with that, it's all part of life's great statistical puzzle.
